Role Overview
The Navy is looking for a skilled Mass Communication Specialist to join their team. This role involves creating compelling narratives that highlight the accomplishments, activities, and stories of Sailors and Navy operations worldwide. Responsibilities include producing diverse multimedia content such as videos, photographs, digital graphics, and written stories, aimed at informing both public and internal audiences. The specialist will act as a vital communication link, collaborating with media outlets, senior leaders, and the wider community to convey accurate and impactful messages. This role offers opportunities for international travel, documenting military operations, and developing high-profile media campaigns, all supporting the Navy’s goals of transparency and public engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Create print and multimedia content including videos, photos, digital graphics, websites, news articles, blogs, and press releases to fulfill Navy communication goals.
- Operate and maintain advanced photography and videography equipment to capture high-quality images and footage of Navy personnel and activities.
- Conduct audience research, analyze engagement metrics, and provide feedback to leadership for improvement of communication strategies.
- Identify communication challenges and devise innovative solutions informed by research and audience insights.
- Work with local and national media to distribute stories, coordinate interviews, and manage public relations campaigns effectively.
- Organize and lead tours of ships and bases for distinguished visitors, ensuring the Navy is positively represented.
- Support Public Affairs Officers and senior communication staff with executing plans and managing media relations.
- Prepare commanders for media engagements including interviews and press conferences.
- Develop content strategies and craft compelling, data-driven stories to enhance public engagement.
- Represent the Navy in media interactions ensuring consistency with organizational messaging and policies.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in mass communication, journalism, multimedia production, or related fields.
- Proficiency with photography, videography, graphic design, and digital content creation tools and techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Creativity, originality, strong critical thinking, and strategic planning abilities.
- Adaptability, a proactive mindset, and willingness to travel extensively for assignments.
- U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain a security clearance, and required certifications.
- Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; preference for candidates with a college degree in communications, media, or similar disciplines.
