About SRMB Group and Role Overview
SRMB Group is setting up an internal New Projects Management division to drive its upcoming phases of manufacturing growth, modernization, and greenfield/brownfield investments. The role demands a proficient Project Manager responsible for overseeing project execution aspects such as engineering, contractor management, procurement coordination, construction, commissioning, schedule adherence, and budget control. Positioned within the Director’s Office, this role independently manages:
- Comprehensive monitoring of all new project portfolios.
- Ensuring precise and consistent progress updates.
- Early detection of delays, budget overruns, and pending decisions.
- Facilitating collaboration among finance, procurement, operations, consultants, and project teams.
- Supervision of approvals including land, utilities, statutory clearances, and management decisions.
- Preparation of concise decision briefs for the Director.
- Ensuring follow-through on commitments made in review meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end project execution accountability.
- Ensure robust governance and project visibility.
- Manage on-site teams and contractor activities effectively.
- Conduct independent progress verifications through site visits.
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules.
- Question deviations and validate underlying assumptions rigorously.
- Escalate and track project requirements and closures.
- Consolidate and report project status across the portfolio.
- Support Director's oversight by preparing dashboards, reports, and decision documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Metallurgy) - B.E./B.Tech.
- Postgraduate qualification such as MBA or project management certification is advantageous.
- A professional background spanning approximately 7 to 12 years.
- At least 4 to 5 years engaged in industrial sectors including steel, metals, manufacturing, infrastructure, or EPC projects.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Expertise in developing and managing consolidated project dashboards encompassing greenfield, brownfield, expansion, and modernization initiatives.
- Proficient in monitoring project timelines, critical paths, CAPEX usage, procurement progress, contractor performance, and commissioning milestones.
- Ability to critically assess progress reports from various stakeholders including consultants and contractors.
- Skillful in early identification of schedule slippages, cost discrepancies, unresolved dependencies, and project risks.
- Competence in generating clear review notes, exception analyses, decision memorandums, and presentations for senior management.
- Tracking decisions and ensuring prompt closure of agreed actions from project reviews.
- Effective coordination with multidisciplinary teams such as Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Government liaison.
- Monitoring compliance with statutory approvals, land, utilities, environmental permissions, and external dependencies.
- Supporting financial evaluations including CAPEX proposals, feasibility studies, quotations, BOQs, and contractor packages.
- Implementing standardized project governance frameworks, review mechanisms, documentation controls, and escalation procedures.
- Periodic on-site inspections to validate physical progress and reconcile actual status with reported data.
- Assisting the Director in project prioritization, resource allocation, and resolving interdepartmental challenges.
Location and Travel
The position is based in Kolkata with frequent travel required to project sites in West Bengal and other states.
