Manager, Communications

Job Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Communications, this role supports the strategic planning and implementation of both internal and external communications efforts designed to enhance Dallas Fort Worth International Airport's (DFW) reputation among employees, customers, and stakeholders. The position entails collaboration with department leaders to improve communication strategies, active leadership in crisis communication providing around-the-clock support, and mentoring team members to advance communications tactics.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and execute communications strategies to position DFW Airport positively in regional, industry, and global contexts.
• Coordinate across departments to deliver unified messaging across owned, earned, and paid media channels.
• Create detailed communications plans with clear goals, target audiences, channels, expected outcomes, and timelines for corporate initiatives.
• Manage brand consistency and integrity across all communication materials.
• Produce and edit various communications assets including speeches, press releases, social media content, and internal documents.
• Oversee external vendors, budgets, deliverables, and deadlines.
• Establish and nurture productive relationships with employees, customers, stakeholders, board members, media, and community partners.
• Serve as an official spokesperson for the Airport.
• Provide leadership to refine communications and marketing approaches enhancing DFW's reputation locally and internationally.
• Lead the creation of creative content, including social media and other communications assets.
• Offer expertise to corporate groups and brands regarding external relations.

Internal Communications Responsibilities

• Lead daily internal communications, managing channels such as intranet, digital signage, executive messaging, and employee emails.
• Collaborate with leadership to improve internal communication tactics and foster team development.
• Draft and edit internal presentations and communication materials, including Town Hall events.
• Maintain and enforce internal communications policies.
• Develop strategic plans specifically targeting employee engagement and corporate initiative communication.
• Supervise video scripting and production to support employee storytelling using visual assets.
• Play a critical role in crisis communication plans with a focus on employee messaging, available on a 24/7 basis.
• Manage corporate communications projects as assigned.

External Communications Responsibilities

• Manage daily media relations and external communication plans, acting as the spokesperson.
• Lead crisis communication efforts, coordinating messaging across all channels and providing 24/7 support during Emergency Operations Center activations.
• Develop communication strategies aimed at local, national, and international audiences through owned and earned channels.
• Maintain and update media relations and crisis communication protocols.
• Build and maintain relationships with local and international media to promote the Airport's positive reputation.
• Oversee key media partnerships and communications management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a similar field.
• At least six years of experience in journalism, corporate communications, public relations, marketing, or related fields involving strategic communication and program management.
• Valid Class C driver's license.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be acceptable.

• Proven success in creative, proactive communications and marketing using multi-channel platforms.

• Skilled in conceptualizing creative marketing materials usable across various channels.
• Understanding of marketing fundamentals including data analysis and audience research.
• Excellent business writing, editing, and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership, management, and project coordination capabilities.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and communication software.
• Self-driven, resourceful, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong writing skills consistent with AP Style guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Spanish language proficiency in speaking and writing.
• Experience using SharePoint as an intranet platform.
• Familiarity with national and international media relations.
• Background in airline, airport, or aviation industry.
• Experience in integrated marketing and communications teams.
• Skills in graphic design, photography, or video production.
