Long Haul Truck Driver

Job Overview

Robust Transport Services Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Long Haul Truck Driver to operate straight or articulated trucks for transportation of goods over national and international routes. This position requires working onsite in Abbotsford, British Columbia with duties involving vehicle operation, maintenance, and communication with dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive as part of a two-person team or in convoy.
• Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently.
• Operate and maneuver straight trucks and tractor-trailer units to transport materials.
• Conduct thorough vehicle inspections including tires, lights, brakes, and cold storage equipment.
• Perform brake adjustments and emergency roadside repairs as necessary.
• Carry out pre-trip, en route, and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring all aspects of vehicle condition are checked.
• Initiate preventive maintenance activities on assigned vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with central dispatch to receive and relay pertinent information.

Qualifications and Experience

• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate required.
• Previous driving experience is considered an advantage.
• Must possess a valid Class 1 or A Driver's License with Air Brake (Z) Endorsement.
• Familiarity with documentation such as accident or incident reports, bills of lading, driver logbooks, pre-trip to post-trip inspection reports, trans-border documentation, and trip reports.

Technical Skills

• Experience operating GPS and navigation systems.
• Proficient in use of trip recorder or on-board computer systems.

Additional Requirements

• Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally, including cross-border and extended periods away from home.
• Clear driving record with license validity and drug test compliance.
• Physical capacity to handle demanding workloads involving repetitive tasks and requiring high levels of attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal skills, reliability, flexibility, organization, sound judgment, and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Work Setting

• Position requires working at various physical locations; remote work is not available for this role.
• Work involves long-haul and international travel assignments.
