Position Overview
The Lead Yard Worker role involves outdoor tasks focused on dismantling vehicle parts efficiently while overseeing yard operations. Acting as a team lead, this position entails managing work distribution, ensuring production targets are met, submitting daily output reports to management, handling special tasks, and resolving routine operational issues.
Key Duties
- Operate forklift or loader to assist in moving vehicles into and out of processing or yard as assigned.
- Accurately track and document vehicle movements promptly.
- Clear debris from vehicles before processing.
- Safely remove fluids, lubricants, and components such as catalytic converters preparing vehicles for yard placement.
- Extract batteries for testing and resale, transporting charged units to retail areas.
- Maintain cleanliness by picking up debris during yard vehicle removals.
- Disassemble tires and remove engine and electrical parts.
- Keep the work environment safe, organized, and clean.
- Comply with all EPA and OSHA standards.
- Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among staff.
- Follow company policies and support ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Leadership Responsibilities
Guide and coordinate tasks of team members performing similar functions, including setting priorities and reviewing work, though without hiring or performance evaluation duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role within a relevant industrial or operations setting; proficient in job duties with comprehensive expertise.
- Preferred high school diploma or GED.
- Mathematical skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing across various measurement units, computing ratios and percentages, and interpreting graphs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel (including formulas), databases, and PowerPoint to support operational objectives.
- Strong oral and written communication skills suitable for training, presentations, and coordination with management.
- Ability to manage routine, recurring problems by following established procedures.
- Capable of multitasking projects of moderate complexity under broad supervision.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Physical activities include standing, walking, lifting up to 75 pounds, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, squatting, reaching, balancing, crouching, and sitting for extended durations.
- Possible exposure to hazardous conditions, cramped spaces, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Occasional travel, potentially overnight depending on job needs.
Compensation
Hourly wage ranges from $23 to $26 based on experience.
