About Conradh na Gaeilge

Job Overview

Reporting to the Advocacy Manager and the organization's Permanent Committee, the Language Rights Coordinator for the Gaeltacht will undertake key responsibilities to advance Irish language rights within Gaeltacht regions and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in campaigns concerning language rights within the Gaeltacht and the wider Irish language community.
  • Collaborate closely with Gaeltacht and Irish-speaking communities as well as with other campaign groups.
  • Engage with local councils, national politicians, and public bodies to advocate for the interests of the Irish language and Gaeltacht areas.
  • Take part in public processes promoting language rights for Irish and Gaeltacht communities.
  • Increase public awareness through information campaigns, public meetings, and events.
  • Work jointly with Language Planning Officers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen the use of Irish as a community language.
  • Support and organize an effective language rights campaign movement as needed.
  • Create and maintain digital advocacy and monitoring resources suitable for social media platforms and websites such as gníomh.ie.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Candidate Profile

  • A third-level qualification relevant to the role or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with community development or campaigning related to Irish or Gaeltacht issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Understanding of language legislation, policies, and rights.
  • Effective administrative and IT skills.

Salary and Benefits

The role is offered at the Executive Officer grade, Circle 07/2026 scale, ranging from €38,803 to €63,227. The starting salary will be at the bottom of this scale. Additionally, a 5% pension contribution will be paid above the salary after successful completion of the probation period.

Additional Information

  • Conradh na Gaeilge operates on an all-island basis; accordingly, all employees have all-island responsibilities.
  • This is a full-time position with a fixed-term contract of one year.
  • The post is based at Oifig na Tulaí, Baile na hAbhann, County Galway. Some remote work may be permitted; however, at least one day per week must be worked from Conradh na Gaeilge offices in Galway or another designated office as required.
