Junior Buyer

Role overview

This position is part of the procurement team supporting North American Legacy Sites for Glencore Canada Corporation. Reporting to the Senior Buyer, Legacy Sites, the Junior Buyer will manage sourcing and purchasing of materials and services while helping ensure strong internal controls, value creation, and alignment with internal customer needs.

The role also supports procurement methods that strengthen volume leverage, uphold best practices, and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, communities, and internal stakeholders. This opportunity is suited to someone who enjoys major-project work, structured negotiations, and contributing to clear scope definition that supports project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support strategic tender activities, including helping define the scope of work, planning tender approaches, and coordinating negotiation activities.
• Prepare bid evaluation materials and draft written recommendations to support contract awards and contract formation.
• Work constructively with communities and supplier networks while maintaining a professional and collaborative approach.
• Partner with engineers and other technical users to convert operational and project requirements into practical procurement deliverables.
• Apply different contracting models where appropriate, including EPC, EPCM, and self-construct approaches.
• Follow internal controls, procurement standards, HSEC expectations, and fair bidding practices at all times.
• Maintain accurate records, documentation, and filing to support compliance and traceability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or economics, along with an SCMP designation or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong ability to understand and negotiate complex financial and legal contract terms.
• Capability to interpret site needs and help develop clear, accurate, and concise scopes of work.
• Four to five years of experience in major-project purchasing.
• Four to five years of experience in mining, reclamation, or a closely related field.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
• Comfortable working within a remote team environment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of Coupa, SAP, or Ellipse would be an advantage.

Additional information

This role requires periodic travel within North America, estimated at 5% to 10%.

English is required for strong interpersonal and communication skills; French language ability is considered an asset.

The position is based in Toronto, but other Glencore office or site locations may also be considered.

The expected base salary range is CAD 76,000 to CAD 105,000, depending on competencies, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. The selected employee will also be eligible for a variable compensation plan (bonus), subject to the plan’s terms and conditions and not guaranteed.
