About the role
The Federal Office of Administration is looking for an IT specialist to support and further develop complex digital applications in a modern, technology-driven environment. The position is aimed at people who enjoy taking ownership, working with DevOps-style methods, and helping move established systems toward new technologies and operating models.
The role is located in Cologne or Hamm and can be filled as a permanent position in full-time or part-time employment. The planned start is as soon as possible. The posting reference is BVA-2026-062-IT and the application deadline is 30.06.2026.
The remuneration is stated as EUR 4,124.53 to EUR 6,326.77 gross, with classification under Gehobener Dienst and evaluation according to E 10 or E 11 TVöD / A 9g to A 11 BBesO.

Responsibilities
- Drive the technical evolution of assigned IT applications by defining technical requirements and coordinating their implementation by external service providers handling software development and quality assurance.
- Ensure integration into the BVA infrastructure, including deployments to various test environments from the Linux command line.
- Work closely and regularly with your team, IT operations, and product owners from the business side.
- Plan and validate application releases.
- Design performance and efficiency tests and make sure non-functional requirements, especially information security requirements, are met.
- Investigate and resolve issues together with the team and handle third-level support communication with users and stakeholders.
- Monitor application maturity at all times, including aspects such as hardware sizing and technology stack, and support the transition to new technologies and working methods.
Requirements
- You have one of the following qualifications: completed IHK training as an IT specialist with a focus on application development or system integration; a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; a degree in another field plus at least one year of proven software development experience; or at least two years of proven software development experience, for example with Java, or very strong knowledge of Linux, databases, or DevOps.
- You already have initial documented experience, for example through internships, in test automation, technical application management, continuous integration / continuous deployment, or DevOps.
- You bring solid IT knowledge, such as object-oriented full-stack or backend development, Java, Linux, and databases.
- You are able to communicate confidently in spoken and written form in order to coordinate professionally with internal and external contacts.
- German language skills at level B2 or higher of the Common European Framework are required.
- You are willing to engage with gender and diversity competence as part of the job.
- You are prepared to undergo an enhanced security clearance (Ü2) under the Federal Security Clearance Act (SÜG).
