About Petfolk

Petfolk is innovating veterinary care by combining excellent medical service with a warm, connected environment for pets, their families, and veterinary professionals.

Role Overview

The HR Generalist is tasked with the daily management and administration of core human resources functions throughout the employee lifecycle. This role emphasizes ensuring compliance, accuracy, and consistent operational procedures. The position involves applying knowledge of employment laws and company policies to support onboarding, leave management, HRIS maintenance, and various HR initiatives. Responsibilities include responding to HR inquiries via a ticketing system, collaborating closely with HR Business Partners and leadership, and escalating sensitive or complex issues when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage leave programs, including FMLA and other leaves of absence: review documentation, monitor eligibility and timelines, and ensure precise communication and documentation.
  • Maintain and audit HRIS records, including updates related to job changes, compensation, and terminations, while regularly verifying data integrity.
  • Assist with administrative tasks regarding workers' compensation claims, maintaining documentation and tracking claim progress.
  • Coordinate unemployment and post-employment claim processes; prepare required responses for state agencies and maintain necessary records.
  • Prepare and analyze reports related to compliance, supporting audits and adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Provide support and clear guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, processes, and systems; escalate issues requiring advanced review to HR Business Partners.
  • Work collaboratively with HR leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure uniform application of HR practices and contribute to HR-related projects.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in human resources, preferably as a generalist or in HR operations, with knowledge of employment law and HR procedures.
  • Experience administering leaves of absence, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and other related HR processes.
  • Proficient in maintaining employee records and processing employment data within HRIS platforms, with familiarity with Rippling being advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate HR reports, support compliance audits, and understand regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and discretion in handling confidential information, applying policies fairly and judiciously.
  • Effective time management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines without compromising detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with good judgment on when to resolve issues directly or escalate.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with HR leadership and business partners.
  • Experience with HRIS and proficiency in Google Office Suite or equivalent tools.
  • Preferred education includes an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws and multi-state workforce compliance is a plus.

Compensation and Additional Details

  • Minimal travel required, up to 10%, to headquarters or pet care centers for meetings.
  • Competitive base salary range between $75,000 and $85,000 annually.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits.
  • Open paid time off policy along with paid parental leave.
