Role Overview
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) role offers a predominantly remote, part-time opportunity tailored for an experienced HR professional based in Southern California. The candidate should be comfortable with occasional travel to client locations in Orange County and Los Angeles. This role involves providing comprehensive HR support to small businesses, including audits, consultations, compliance assistance, HR plan development, and employee relations guidance to foster growth and reduce risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate meetings with business clients to understand their HR needs.
- Provide expert HR consultation and guidance to management teams.
- Analyze workforce trends and metrics to design solutions, policies, and programs.
- Serve as a reliable advisor for leadership on complex employment and compliance issues.
- Manage complex employee relations concerns thoughtfully and thoroughly.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant labor laws at federal, state, and local levels.
- Offer coaching and performance management support, including disciplinary and career development advice.
- Collaborate with clients to enhance workplace morale, retention, and productivity.
- Interpret and provide guidance on HR policies.
- Perform HR audits and review employee handbooks for compliance and effectiveness.
- Assist clients with workers’ compensation, compensation planning, and employee onboarding strategies.
- Leverage technology tools to streamline client interactions and documentation.
- Create and refine job descriptions, interview questions, and screening processes.
- Manage payroll, benefits administration, leave management, and safety documentation.
- Deliver virtual Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and oversee training program evaluations.
- Manage client projects effectively, including occasional travel to client sites as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in human resources roles with broad discipline knowledge, including CA labor laws.
- At least 5 years of recent California HR experience and expertise in state-specific labor legislation.
- HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or PHRca.
- Experience with payroll platforms and leave management (e.g., PDL, CFRA, FMLA, ADA).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills focused on business clarity and precision.
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service aptitude.
- High emotional intelligence and resilience to manage complex client situations.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and company policies effectively.
- Adaptability to multitask and manage multiple projects under deadlines.
- Business acumen to provide strategic HR advice with a focus on ROI.
- Technologically proficient with Office 365, HRIS, payroll systems, and project management software.
- Coachability and willingness to continuously update skills and knowledge.
- High integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information.
Preferred Credentials
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- Training and HRIS implementation experience.
