Role Overview
As a Health Coach at Virta, you will guide members in sustainable weight loss and metabolic health improvement through evidence-based nutrition and behavior change techniques. You will serve as a vital support system using virtual tools to motivate and educate individuals on managing their metabolic conditions effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver nutrition and behavior modification coaching that links food choices with measurable health markers using evidence-based methods.
- Provide personalized, primarily chat-based nutritional guidance focused on maintaining nutritional ketosis through tailored carbohydrate intake and lifestyle change.
- Build empathetic relationships with members to promote sustained success and engagement.
- Utilize counseling techniques such as motivational interviewing and personalized goal setting to encourage member retention and success.
- Adhere to clinical workflows and meticulously document all member interactions and progress.
- Collaborate closely with healthcare providers and support staff to offer coordinated, personalized care ensuring patient safety and efficacy.
- Uphold Virta’s company values and contribute expertise to foster a strong, collaborative team environment.
- Adapt quickly in a dynamic environment with frequent changes and new information.
90-Day Onboarding Plan
- Complete comprehensive training on Virta’s tools, metabolic health approach, member engagement strategies, and behavioral coaching techniques.
- Begin direct interaction with assigned members including onboarding calls and routine care activities.
- Become proficient with the various platforms and technologies needed for daily responsibilities.
- Understand key performance indicators and how your work affects team and member outcomes.
- Engage actively with the team culture by providing feedback and participating in continuous improvement efforts.
- Build connections across teams and leadership, embodying Virta’s core values.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum two years’ experience in patient-facing roles involving goal-setting and behavior change such as outpatient nutrition, motivational interviewing, community health, weight loss, or metabolic health coaching.
- Experience or recent certification in chronic condition/metabolic health coaching, preferably NBHWC or ICF credentials.
- Associate’s degree or higher in health, behavioral health, or a related field.
- Strong digital literacy with comfort using various communication and remote care platforms including text, video, phone, instant messaging, Google Suite, Slack, and Zoom.
- Demonstrated high emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to work collaboratively during times of change.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to manage workflow and adapt rapidly.
- Passion for metabolic health and frontline patient care.
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving abilities focused on the best outcomes for members.
- Effective communication skills tailored to diverse audiences and media.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
- Ability to formulate actionable plans, set goals, and hold members accountable while adjusting strategies as needed.
- Comfortable operating amid ambiguity and evolving information, showing creativity and sound judgment.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience working with people managing type 2 diabetes, obesity, or other metabolic conditions.
- Background in asynchronous coaching methods.
- Familiarity with ketogenic or low-carbohydrate dietary approaches as part of therapeutic care.
- Certified NBC-HWC or ICF coach.

Virta operates as a remote-first organization with teams distributed across multiple locations including office hubs in Denver and San Francisco.

Compensation starts at $30 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
