Head of Fleet

Job Purpose

The Head of Fleet oversees strategic and operational management of fleets across SIXT Rent A Car, GCR Leasing, and SIXT Limo. This role covers all aspects of the fleet lifecycle, including acquisition, planning, utilization, maintenance, compliance, optimization, remarketing, and disposal. The main goal is to enhance fleet profitability, operational efficiency, reduce costs, and support commercial growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the comprehensive fleet strategy across all business divisions.
• Optimize fleet composition, utilization rates, and plan lifecycle management effectively.
• Ensure fleet capacity aligns with business demand and growth objectives.
• Lead vehicle procurement efforts and negotiate with suppliers to secure advantageous agreements.
• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
• Maximize return on fleet investment through competitive commercial negotiations.
• Manage fleet operations ensuring highest vehicle availability and usage.
• Supervise maintenance, repairs, registration, regulatory compliance, and readiness of fleet vehicles.
• Promote standardization and ongoing improvements within fleet operations.
• Take ownership of key fleet performance indicators, including utilization, downtime, maintenance expenditure, damages, depreciation, and profitability.
• Identify operational efficiencies, reduce running costs, and elevate overall fleet performance.
• Provide data-driven insights and reporting to the General Manager.
• Develop strategies for fleet cycling and replacements to maximize asset value.
• Collaborate closely with Operations, Sales, and Finance teams to enhance asset performance.
• Lead and nurture the Fleet function which includes Fleet Managers, Supervisors, Maintenance and Repair Teams, Cycling Team, Registration Coordinators, Fleet Coordinators, and Drivers.
• Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in the car rental sector with direct responsibility for fleet management and operations.
• Candidates with Head of Rental experience possessing substantial fleet and operational expertise will also be considered.
• Proven leadership of extensive fleet operations and multisite teams.
• Strong commercial awareness, analytical skills, and financial understanding.
• Comprehensive knowledge of government regulations and vehicle management processes.
• Experience managing fleets over 5,000 vehicles is preferred.
• Background working with OEMs, leasing, or mobility companies is advantageous.
