Position Overview
At Tyler Junior College (TJC), Graphic Designers play an essential role in conveying our brand through visually appealing designs. This role reports to the Director of Marketing, Media & Communications and works closely with the marketing team to evaluate marketing requests from various departments. The purpose is to design branded visuals for diverse platforms, such as promotional materials and digital communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Create striking and brand-aligned graphics, illustrations, and visual elements for marketing outlets including social media (organic and paid), paid digital and print media, email marketing, texts, websites, and signage.
- Maintain a consistent brand presentation across all TJC graphic assets to foster a strong visual identity that speaks to prospects, students, and community members.
- Handle multiple concurrent design projects from ideation through delivery while adhering to tight deadlines efficiently.
- Ensure all design outputs are accurate, high-quality, and uniform, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Foster collaborative and positive relationships with marketing colleagues and other college departments to encourage a productive and efficient workplace.
- Consult with clients on design requests and advise them on optimal marketing strategies that enhance communication effectiveness to target audiences.
- Support fellow graphic designers and oversee student assistants.
- Coordinate with external agencies, vendors, and printers to produce marketing pieces that are on budget and delivered timely.
- Stay informed about the latest design trends and advancements in relevant hardware and software.
Competencies and Skills
Essential skills include teamwork, proficiency with computer software, customer service orientation, multitasking abilities, excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational capabilities, time management, confidentiality, discretion in handling sensitive information, and maintaining professionalism in an educational setting.
Preferred Experience
- Project management expertise.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using Wrike or similar project management systems.
- Ability with Marq (formerly Lucid Press) templating or equivalent systems.
- Skills in photography, videography, social media management, and web content systems.
Work Environment and Requirements
The role is based in an indoor office environment, typically during standard business hours, with occasional minimal travel. Physical activities include sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, frequent typing, and standard office equipment use. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record if travel is needed.
Education and Experience
- Required: Associate’s degree in a related discipline.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience: Minimum of one year directly related, or three years of relevant experience.
Additional Qualifications
- Background in higher education.
- Capability to create GIFs and motion graphics.
- Use of project management software such as Wrike, Workfront, or Asana.
