Role Overview
The Parks and Environment branch is inviting applications for the role of General Hand in Parks Operations. This full-time position involves caring for parks, reserves, sports grounds, and public areas through turf and garden maintenance alongside safe operation of machinery. You will collaborate with a dedicated team to ensure these community spaces remain attractive, secure, and well-kept.
Main Duties and Expectations
- Participate in routine maintenance of public parks and recreational spaces to maintain high standards.
- Operate plant and equipment safely and effectively to support maintenance activities.
- Work cohesively within a team to meet quality and consistency targets for public space upkeep.
- Engage positively with colleagues and the community to foster excellent working relationships.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in parks maintenance, horticulture, or a related discipline is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative team setting.
- Understanding of maintaining consistent high-quality public spaces.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with staff and customers.
- Committed work ethic and a constructive, outcome-focused attitude.
Mandatory Qualifications and Licences
- Current MR driver's licence.
- White Card certification.
- National Police Clearance not older than three months (required upon appointment).
- For Level 5 positions: Certificate III or higher in Horticulture or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Spray operator certification.
- Chainsaw licence.
- Tickets for forklift, loader or excavator operations.
Terms and Benefits
- Full-time employment, 76 hours per fortnight with a nine-day fortnight option.
- Attractive salary packages: Level 4 (Unqualified) at $81,061 per annum plus superannuation; Level 5 (Qualified) at $85,002 per annum plus superannuation.
