Job Overview

We are seeking a Flagging and Traffic Control Specialist for employment in Cookeville, Tennessee. This role involves coordinating multiple crews engaged in constructing commercial parking lots, municipal streets, county roads, and interstate highways. A paramount commitment to safety is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct vehicles and pedestrians safely through active construction zones using stop/slow paddles and hand signals.
  • Reduce the likelihood of accidents by managing traffic flow, including slowing and halting traffic when necessary.
  • Set up and remove barricades, cones, and warning signs in compliance with Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) rules.
  • Supervise alternating single-lane traffic safely and communicate with coworkers and supervisors via two-way radios to maintain efficient traffic movement.
  • Stay vigilant to identify potential hazards involving construction machinery, workers, and oncoming traffic within work zones.
  • Document license plates of aggressive or non-compliant drivers and report such incidents to supervisory personnel or law enforcement agencies.
  • Wear all required high-visibility personal protective equipment and adhere strictly to established Traffic Management Plans.

Qualifications

  • Consistent dedication to maintaining safety protocols in all activities.
  • Experience in traffic control in busy road construction settings is preferred.
  • Possession of ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification is an advantage.
  • Availability for overtime, nighttime, and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undergo training aligned with MUTCD traffic control standards.
  • Preparedness to assist with manual labor duties as assigned.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
