Job description
Overview
The Financial Planning Analyst role at Universal Sompo General Insurance is pivotal in enabling strategic decision-making, ensuring regulatory adherence, driving business planning, and delivering insightful financial and operational evaluations. This position encompasses regulatory and management reporting, business analytics, industry benchmarking, and active support for automation projects throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Guarantee 100% accuracy and punctual submission of all regulatory filings to bodies such as IRDAI, GIC, and others.
- Track and coordinate reporting requirements with relevant stakeholders to meet statutory deadlines.
- Maintain rigorous controls and validation protocols for regulatory data submissions.
- Respond promptly and precisely to ad-hoc requests for data, analysis, and reports from multiple departments.
- Develop, verify, and present business performance reports, dashboards, and management presentations.
- Provide senior leadership with data-driven insights facilitating operational and strategic decision support.
- Contribute to the Annual Operating Plan by delivering accurate financial data, analytical support, and forecasting inputs.
- Assist budgeting, monitor performance, analyze variances, and assess business outlook collaboratively with business units.
- Conduct in-depth data analysis supporting business growth, profitability, and compliance.
- Create actionable financial, operational, and market insights to aid strategic initiatives.
- Prepare and analyze insurance-specific reports including premium calculations, incentive assessments, rural/social sector obligations, HIR, public disclosures, board presentations, ensuring data consistency and accuracy.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive industry database for benchmarking and conduct competitor and market analyses to inform management about trends and strategic positioning.
- Generate detailed financial and performance reports for shareholders and ensure alignment with global reporting standards, addressing queries from international stakeholders.
- Collaborate with IT and Digital teams to define business needs and support validation and testing for BI tools, driving automation and data governance to enhance reporting efficiency.
Performance Metrics
- Ensure perfect accuracy and timely submission of more than 20 regulatory reports.
- Complete ad-hoc data requests promptly.
- Deliver quality and timely support for AOP planning and budgeting processes.
- Maintain accuracy in critical insurance calculations and disclosures.
- Develop and sustain the industry benchmarking database effectively.
- Submit reports to Sompo Japan and Sompo International within required timelines.
- Contribute to improving reporting processes through automation and efficiency initiatives.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Expertise in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and AOP planning.
- Strong experience in regulatory reporting and compliance in insurance sector.
- Proficient in management reporting and MIS development.
- Data analytics capabilities with ability to generate actionable business insights.
- Familiarity with stakeholder relationship management.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, Power BI, SQL, and other reporting technologies.
- Insurance industry domain understanding, particularly general insurance.
- Skills in process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Strong analytical thinking and effective problem-solving skills.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- Graduation in Commerce, MBA Finance, or an equivalent degree.
- Prior relevant experience in FP&A, business reporting, regulatory reporting, or insurance analytics.
- Experience within the general insurance industry is preferred but not mandatory.
