Position Overview
This role supports the Washington County Health Department's commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of county residents. The Family Support Worker II engages families primarily through in-home visits lasting at least one hour, with virtual visits as necessary. The approach is centered on building trusting relationships with families, emphasizing strengths, promoting healthy child development, and improving family functioning by reducing risks and reinforcing protective factors. The position respects diverse family structures and parenting methods.
Key Duties
- Establish and maintain regular, long-term contact with families lasting up to three years.
- Conduct family-centered, strength-oriented interventions that support parent-child relationships.
- Administer screening tools such as ASQ, ASQ-SE, and depression screenings.
- Identify families’ needs and connect them to appropriate health and social services.
- Assist families in setting goals and offer ongoing guidance during the process.
- Implement activities from the Family Service Plan addressing concerns identified by the Family Resilience and Opportunities for Growth (FROG) scale.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years' experience offering support services to children or adults, focusing on teaching practical living skills to promote independence or support family stability.
- Alternate qualifications include substituting caregiving experience, college credits in human services or related fields, or relevant military social services experience on a year-for-year basis, as defined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with children and families.
- Understanding of child and infant developmental processes.
Licenses and Certifications
- A valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license may be required for responsibilities involving client transportation.
- Certain roles may require obtaining and maintaining certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Geriatric Nursing Assistant as mandated by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Special Requirements
- Successful completion of an approved entry-level training program prior to permanent appointment if working with families with dependent children.
- May be required to use a personal vehicle for client transport and provide proof of insurance that covers such duties; mileage reimbursement is provided.
