Role Overview
We are seeking diligent and service-oriented professionals to join the Mandai Operations Department responsible for managing government cemeteries, crematoria, and columbaria. This position is based at the Mandai crematorium and plays an integral role in delivering after-death care services. The role demands professionalism and dignity while undertaking technical responsibilities within a sensitive, emotionally demanding setting. Balancing operational efficiency alongside compassionate service to grieving families is critical.
Primary Duties
- Verify and process required documentation and clearances prior to cremations and ash retrieval.
- Operate cremation-related machinery such as cremators, mechanised trolleys, and insertion devices, following strict safety guidelines and internal protocols.
- Handle human remains respectfully at every stage, ensuring accurate identification and tracking in line with established procedures.
- Maintain and update cremation and ash collection logs promptly, adhering to legal obligations and internal standards.
- Address and manage feedback from funeral service providers and relatives compassionately.
- Collaborate with funeral directors and families to ensure the smooth operation of the crematorium.
- React swiftly to equipment malfunctions and liaise with pertinent teams for timely resolution.
- Keep the crematorium premises clean, orderly, and dignified at all times.
- Undertake any additional tasks assigned by supervisors.
Candidate Profile
- Possess relevant technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering or an equivalent field.
- Understand operational and maintenance aspects of cremation equipment, including compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Comfortable with record management systems and basic computer applications necessary for accurate documentation.
- Exhibit strong emotional fortitude and maintain professionalism in an environment associated with death and mourning.
- Have keen attention to detail ensuring high accuracy standards in all work procedures.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to interact empathetically with bereaved families and funeral professionals.
- Be capable of working independently with sustained concentration on responsibilities requiring respect and accuracy.
- Available to work rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays.
- Physically able to stand for long durations and perform occasional lifting tasks.
- Adapt to working in environments with high-temperature equipment while strictly following safety protocols.
- Comfortable with exposure to deceased human remains and supporting grieving family members.
