Overview

The Electrical Distribution Technician will be responsible for managing the operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of high and medium voltage electrical distribution systems that support airfield and installation operations at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. This vital position ensures the continuous, safe, and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure, including critical airfield lighting systems essential for flight operations and mission readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install high- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Maintain and test airfield lighting systems such as runway, taxiway, apron, precision approach, navigational, and lighting control systems.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, underground distribution, and related equipment.
  • Identify electrical system faults, isolate root causes, and implement corrective measures to restore system functionality.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering drawings accurately.
  • Use specialized electrical testing equipment to test and commission systems effectively.
  • Coordinate maintenance and planned outages with Airfield Operations and related teams to minimize operational disruption.
  • Maintain precise records of maintenance activities, inspections, work orders, and system documentation.
  • Comply with the National Electrical Code, OSHA standards, lockout/tagout procedures, U.S. Air Force guidelines, and environmental and safety requirements.
  • Respond promptly and safely to emergency electrical outages and mission-critical failures to restore service swiftly.
  • Ensure tools, testing devices, and work areas are safely maintained and operational.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned supporting installation operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory due to sensitive customer needs.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • High school diploma or GED credential.
  • Current Master or Journeyman Electrician license.
  • At least five years hands-on experience with high- and/or medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Minimum five years of maintaining airfield lighting systems, including navigational and control systems.
  • Proven ability in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing electrical distribution systems in operational environments.
  • Strong skills reading and interpreting technical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Deep knowledge of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, and airfield lighting infrastructure.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and aptitude for learning computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and enterprise software.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License; U.S. Passport preferred.
  • Compliance with USCENTCOM Deployment Policy including ability to obtain and maintain Qatar Residency Visa and DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Capable of working in challenging environmental conditions such as extreme heat, dust, and humidity.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency maintenance needs as necessary.
  • Physically fit to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform demanding maintenance tasks.
