Electrical Apprentice

Role Overview

PepsiCo Carrigaline is recruiting an Electrical Apprentice to join its Maintenance Engineering team at a cutting-edge food and beverage manufacturing site. This apprenticeship follows the SOLAS national standards and provides a blend of practical on-site training alongside formal academic instruction. The program aims to develop the apprentice into a competent Craft Electrician skilled in safely maintaining and troubleshooting essential manufacturing and utility machinery within a GMP-governed setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete all on-site training and assigned duties adhering to SOLAS apprenticeship guidelines.
• Support installation, servicing, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
• Assist with maintenance tasks on production lines, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
• Engage in planned preventive maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Learn to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Work on components such as motors, drives, sensors, control panels, and basic automation technology.
• Document maintenance work accurately using PepsiCo’s computerized management systems.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and production teams to uphold safe and efficient operations.
• Participate actively in safety, reliability, and continuous improvement activities at the site.

Health, Safety, Quality & Food Safety

• Adhere strictly to PepsiCo’s health and electrical safety policies.
• Follow all lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work, and safe isolation processes diligently.
• Comply with GMP, hygiene, and food safety standards specific to food and beverage manufacturing.
• Wear necessary personal protective equipment and maintain cleanliness and orderliness.
• Report any hazards, incidents, or near-misses promptly.

Apprenticeship & Development Requirements

• Be officially registered with the SOLAS Electrical Apprenticeship program.
• Successfully complete all required off-site (college) training phases assigned by SOLAS.
• Exhibit dedication to learning, punctuality, and academic achievement throughout the apprenticeship.
• Develop technical skills and confidence progressively through practical experience.
• Maintain professionalism aligned with PepsiCo’s values and site norms.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification including Mathematics.
• Be eligible to register for the SOLAS Electrical Apprenticeship.
• Show strong enthusiasm for electrical and industrial engineering.
• Be willing to work in a manufacturing environment, including possible shift rotations and on-call duties.
• Possess a strong safety mindset and keen attention to detail.
• Demonstrate good communication abilities and teamwork skills.

Preferred Attributes

• Previous exposure to technical, electrical, or mechanical settings through projects, work experience, or related coursework.
• Interest in automation, manufacturing technologies, or industrial systems.
• Basic familiarity with electrical principles or control systems.
