Position Overview
The Diagnostic Scheduler plays a critical role within the Diagnostic Department, handling scheduling and assisting with prior authorization referrals for radiologic, CT, MRI, and other diagnostic tests. The role requires frequent interaction and clear communication with patients, their families, healthcare providers, and internal staff. In addition, the position encompasses clerical responsibilities supporting multiple departmental functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage exam scheduling efficiently, including cooperation with radiologists and technologists to coordinate available times.
- Utilize departmental technology such as computers, telephones, printers, scanners, and fax machines to support scheduling and communication.
- Accurately receive, confirm, and verify patient information and prescribed procedures for appointment setup.
- Enter patient data into designated systems following departmental protocols, demonstrating understanding of CPT and ICD-10 codes to ensure appropriateness of orders.
- Process referrals and obtain prior authorizations from insurance providers, verifying medical necessity of requested imaging.
- Perform clerical duties including patient check-in, assisting patients during visits, generating fee tickets, and managing department mail, faxes, subpoenas, and radiology medical records requests, including duplicating images.
- Respond to inquiries related to Radiology or Diagnostic services professionally and promptly.
- Exhibit quality work, timely completion of tasks, appropriate decision-making, proactive problem-solving, and maintain confidentiality of patient and company information.
- Demonstrate courteous and respectful interactions with patients, coworkers, and management, adhering fully to all company policies.
- Fulfill miscellaneous assignments as directed by management.
- Maintain attendance in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience scheduling radiology procedures is preferred.
- Basic understanding of radiologic practices, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, medical terminology, and knowledge of radiation and MRI safety guidelines.
- Ability to comprehend, speak, read, and write simple English sentences accurately, follow written and oral instructions, collaborate effectively with others, and demonstrate professionalism and respect.
- Physical ability to perform essential duties, including reading fine print and communicating effectively either unaided or with assistive devices.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Compensation
The base hourly rate starts at $19.83, dependent on experience.
