Role Overview
The Design Assurance Quality Engineer is responsible for embedding quality throughout the new product development process, ensuring that designs, systems, verification steps, and launches meet stringent quality standards. This position involves collaboration across multiple departments including engineering, R&D, manufacturing, sourcing, and regulatory teams to identify early risks and enforce control measures that align with customer, commercial, and regulatory expectations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as the expert on quality within cross-functional new product development teams.
- Incorporate quality criteria into every stage of product design from initial concept to market launch.
- Lead quality planning tasks such as creating design quality and control plans, inspection strategies, and defect prevention measures.
- Manage risk analysis processes including DFMEA, PFMEA, hazard reviews, FRACA, and mitigation planning.
- Coordinate design and process reviews to verify integration of quality, reliability, and customer requirements.
- Design and carry out strategies for product verification and validation focused on critical-to-quality attributes.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality to ensure smooth design transfer and readiness for production.
- Lead problem-solving efforts, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation during development and launch phases.
- Maintain compliance with internal quality protocols, industry standards, APQP processes, and change management.
- Utilize data analytics, statistical methods, and lessons learned to monitor and improve quality on new product projects.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality management, manufacturing, or a related technical field.
- Proven background in quality engineering, specifically within design assurance and new product development.
- Familiarity with established NPD frameworks and continuous improvement approaches such as Lean Six Sigma.
- Competence using quality and product data tools like Minitab, PLM, ERP, or quality management systems.
- Knowledgeable about APQP, PPAP, design control, and product lifecycle management methodologies.
- Professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Lean Six Sigma, or related credentials.
- Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal.
