About the Role

Flatpay is onboarding its inaugural dedicated Debt Collection Specialist for the German market. This pivotal position owns the entire debt collection cycle from day 1 to 60, ensuring departing clients return hardware and settle outstanding balances, with appropriate escalations when necessary. The role not only executes but also shapes Flatpay Germany's debt recovery procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full debt collection lifecycle (day 1 to 60) for German merchants, including sole proprietors and corporations.
• Retrieve payment terminals from customers ending service agreements, diligently following up until full return is confirmed.
• Report invoicing errors to integrate feedback into the automated finance workflows.
• Conduct outbound calls to negotiate payment plans and provide thorough follow-up.
• Initiate judicial dunning procedures at appropriate stages, and hand over unresolved cases to external collection agencies.
• Maintain accurate case documentation and contribute insights to enhance upstream processes like onboarding, contracts, and terminations.

Success Metrics for First 6 Months

• Established and documented effective collection process for days 1 to 60 in practice.
• Regular reporting aligned with targets on daily, weekly, and monthly bases.
• Defined key performance indicators for hardware return rates and payment recoveries.
• Clear playbook outlining negotiation timing, judicial procedures initiation, and external handoffs.

Candidate Profile

Mandatory:

• Hands-on experience in German debt collection involving both sole traders and companies.
• Exposure to small-volume, high-frequency B2B collections managing many accounts rapidly.
• Experience triggering judicial dunning and/or coordinating with external collection entities.
• Confident telephone communication skills to negotiate and manage challenging customer interactions.
• Organized and proactive mindset to set up new functions independently.
• Fluent German language skills.
• Valid work authorization for Germany.
• Availability to work five days per week onsite in Berlin.

Desirable:

• Background in payments, fintech, or merchant services industries.
• Experience designing or improving debt collection processes from scratch.
