Role overview
LTM is looking to hire an Oracle Database Administrator for its Nairobi office in Parklands/Highridge ward, Kenya. The role calls for a candidate with strong communication skills and substantial hands-on experience in Oracle database operations.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and support Oracle databases across 11g, 12c, and 19c versions on Linux and Unix systems.
- Track database health, improve performance, diagnose bottlenecks, and apply indexing and tuning methods where needed.
- Create and maintain backup, recovery, and replication processes using RMAN and related tools.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, roles, and other access controls to protect database security and compliance.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance work such as patching, upgrades, updates, and issue resolution.
- Oversee storage usage, disk capacity, and archiving practices.
- Investigate and fix database errors, failures, crashes, and other operational problems.
- Partner with developers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to keep database systems aligned with business needs.
- Keep clear and accurate records of database structures, configurations, and operating procedures.
- Plan and execute database upgrade and migration activities.
Design, implementation, and advanced administration
- Handle advanced configuration and complex troubleshooting tasks.
- Analyse technical issues and deliver lasting fixes.
- Implement and support RAC environments.
- Implement and support ASM.
- Configure Data Guard for failover between the data centre and DR site, including switchover and failover operations.
- Perform database recovery work and identify and correct corruption issues.
- Design databases with high availability in mind.
- Create strategies for ongoing database maintenance and management.
- Address performance issues connected with clustering and create logical diagrams to understand database design and functional loops.
- Carry out SQL tuning and optimization.
- Administer basic and advanced replication setups.
- Manage VLDB environments.
- Move data across platforms as required.
- Evaluate database-related software and administer third-party DBA tools.
- Support training activities when needed.
Qualifications and knowledge
- A bachelor's degree in any discipline with strong communication ability and 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
- Practical exposure to Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
- Solid understanding of Oracle 19c features.
- Working knowledge of PDBCDB is preferred.
- Experience with RAC configuration and CRS troubleshooting will be an advantage.
- Oracle OCP certification in 11g, 12c, or 19c is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server will be considered an added benefit.
