Overview
The Data Center Lease Development Manager plays a crucial role in managing technical assessments, negotiating, and overseeing complex lease agreements in the hyperscale data center sector. This position requires strong strategic and analytical skills to collaborate with Site Selection Managers in creating innovative solutions for large lease options and pioneering business models related to AI deployment in leased environments. Deep expertise in leased data center operations, site selection, contracts, and lease management is essential to overcome challenges related to leasing negotiations and ongoing lease administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and drive the strategy for Meta's leased and colocation data center locations, leading site selection efforts that include technical due diligence, commercial negotiations, and contract management in collaboration with teams focused on economic development incentives, utilities, network connectivity, legal, policy, and finance.
- Lead and facilitate technical feasibility evaluations and negotiate contracts with landlords, property owners, utility providers, and engineering personnel.
- Act as the primary liaison between Meta Engineering and landlord subject matter experts to optimize facility solutions aligned with customer requirements efficiently.
- Oversee lease contract amendments to address changing business demands, improved terms or processes, and feedback from engineering teams.
- Negotiate letters of intent, lease agreements, service contracts, and facility-specific accords.
- Collaborate with internal teams including capacity planning, energy, design, construction, legal, policy, communications, and finance to ensure alignment on critical business terms.
- Innovate on measuring performance and tracking mechanisms related to leasing activities.
- Manage supplier relationships ensuring the adoption of best practices.
- Analyze markets to develop and refine leasing site selection strategies.
- Stay updated on technological, market, and regulatory trends impacting the data center industry.
- Contribute to refining Meta’s organizational strategy and rental standards for leased data centers.
- Prepare for occasional travel domestically and internationally, estimated at 10–25% as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, paralegal studies, a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in leased data center site selection, engineering, design, construction, contract management, or in managing development for large-scale or mission-critical capital projects.
- Expertise in managing complex negotiations and representing business interests to executive leadership, suppliers, utilities, and other stakeholders.
- Proven ability to oversee multiple projects involving coordination across internal teams, consultants, vendors, and external parties.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a track record of conveying intricate commercial, market, and contractual information effectively at all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ongoing proficiency development in AI technologies such as prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration.
- Proven aptitude for implementing AI tools to streamline and enhance workflows resulting in measurable improvements.
- Advanced degree in a technical discipline, law, or business administration.
- Solid background in engineering, contract management, lease agreements, especially concerning data center leases.
- Experience in applying ethical and responsible AI practices, including risk assessments, bias mitigation, and quality assurance.

The role offers a base salary ranging from 202000 to 273000 USD annually, supplemented by bonus, equity, and additional benefits. Total individual compensation varies based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Meta provides extensive benefits beyond base pay.
