About ParetoHealth
ParetoHealth exists to improve employee health benefits for the greater good. Founded in 2011, the company helps small and medium-sized businesses manage the rising cost of healthcare coverage through financing innovations, lower-risk self-insurance structures, and a broader ecosystem of partner and cost-control solutions.
The Analytics team works where healthcare data, business strategy, and decision-making meet. The group uses medical, pharmacy, stoploss, and business data to produce insights that shape product direction, client results, underwriting decisions, and internal operations. The culture emphasizes collaboration, shared ownership, respect, and growth.
Role Overview
This position is suited to an experienced individual contributor who operates comfortably between data science and traditional BI analytics. The analyst will work with Data Scientists and business stakeholders on complex, ambiguous problems, with an emphasis on operationalizing solutions and keeping them sustainable over time. The role focuses on rigorous analysis, standardization, and turning data into practical decisions. It does not involve predictive model building for production or people management. The role reports to the VP of Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Lead Analysts and Data Scientists to understand priorities and convert business questions into analytical work.
- Develop, test, and improve methods for complex problems while keeping long-term maintainability in mind.
- Work directly with large and difficult healthcare datasets, including medical and pharmacy claims.
- Create and support dependable SQL queries and analytical datasets.
- Build visualizations and summaries that clearly communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Turn analytical findings into practical recommendations together with the Analytics team.
- Document assumptions, methods, and limits so results remain transparent and reproducible.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Lead Analysts on exploratory work, hypothesis development, and interpretation.
- Align with teammates on definitions, methods, and data-quality standards.
- Support analytics opportunities that can improve business outcomes.
- Work with teams across underwriting, product, account management, and cost containment.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience in healthcare analytics, ideally in health benefits or insurance, with a working understanding of the U.S. health insurance system.
- Practical experience handling administrative healthcare data such as medical and pharmacy claims.
- Strong foundation in math and statistics, including quantitative reasoning, distributions, rates, and variability in real-world healthcare settings.
- Advanced SQL ability, including query building, optimization, and validation.
- Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization tools.
- Hands-on use of Python for analysis and data wrangling.
- Background in data cleaning, validation, and exploratory analysis on large, complex datasets.
- Familiarity with descriptive statistics, cohort analysis, risk assessment, trend analysis, and causal thinking.
- Good analytical judgment to choose appropriate methods and understand when to use them.
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong depth in Python, even though advanced modeling is not required.
- Exposure to CRM data systems such as Salesforce.
- Knowledge of underwriting and actuarial risk assessment in healthcare insurance.
- Familiarity with AWS serverless and data services, including S3, Lambda, Glue, SageMaker, and EMR.
Perks & Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage paid in full.
- Flexible paid time off.
- Company 401(k) contribution.
- Tuition reimbursement support.
- Professional development allowance.
- Transportation support and daily parking reimbursement.
- Hybrid work environment.
Values
- Fire in the belly: the drive to keep learning, improving, and delivering strong value every day.
- See the field: the ability to understand the bigger picture and prepare for future needs.
- Get it done right: a commitment to high standards and strong execution.
- For the greater good: a shared mission to create better health benefit solutions for all.
