Fond Farewells is a specialist pet cremation service that provides compassionate and respectful aftercare for companion animals and their families. Working throughout Aotearoa New Zealand in partnership with veterinary clinics, the service is designed to make the aftercare journey smooth, dignified, and considerate of the bond between pets and the people who love them.

About the role

Fond Farewells is looking for a dependable Cremation Technician to join the Christchurch team in a permanent part-time position. The role is rostered Tuesday to Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

In this hands-on position, you will contribute to the cremation and after-death care process, helping ensure that each step is completed with care, precision, and professionalism. You will work with a small, supportive team and be responsible for operating cremation equipment, managing remains, and handling the related records, preparation, and dispatch tasks that keep the operation running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Run cremation machinery in line with approved operating methods and safety requirements.
• Carry out equipment start-up, active monitoring, and shutdown procedures for cremation cycles.
• Prepare, manage, and process remains according to documented workplace instructions.
• Accept, log, and dispatch items in accordance with site procedures.
• Package and send remains to clients accurately and within required timeframes.
• Handle client queries and operational tasks quickly, courteously, and professionally.
• Assist with broader site duties and support colleagues whenever needed.

About you

To do well in this role, you should bring practical experience from an operational, technical, or similar hands-on environment. You’ll need to be detail-focused, comfortable following strict procedures, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team.

A positive and adaptable approach is important, along with strong communication skills, good interpersonal ability, and a consistent commitment to confidentiality and professional behaviour. Basic computer skills are also required to maintain accurate records and documentation. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
