Role Overview
As a Contract Specialist reporting to the PMO Lead, you will engage from tender initiation through project execution to manage and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance and effective contract administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Support bid teams early in the tender process by reviewing contract terms and conditions.
- Identify and evaluate commercial risks, liabilities, and critical contract clauses prior to bid submission.
- Advise on risk positions, contract deviations, and commercial impacts clearly.
- Assist Project Managers with contract interpretation and commercial decisions.
- Act as a trusted advisor during client and commercial discussions as needed.
- Ensure contract obligations are understood and adhered to throughout project delivery.
- Monitor adherence to contractual terms and proactively flag risks.
- Guide Project Managers through variation and change control procedures.
- Maintain thorough commercial records to support claims and entitlements.
- Collaborate with Finance and Legal departments on complex contractual issues.
- Promote contract awareness and best practices within the project management community.
Candidate Requirements
- 5 to 10 years of experience in contract management or commercial roles.
- Third-level qualification in Business, Law, Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of contract frameworks, risk allocation, and commercial terms.
- Experience with engineering, construction, or professional service contracts.
- Excellent analytical thinking and negotiation capabilities.
- Ability to confidently advise Project Managers and stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and awareness of risk factors.
- Familiarity with the NEC contract suite, particularly PSC, ECC, and Public Works Contract.
- Experience handling claims, disputes, and variations.
- Professional qualifications in procurement or contract management are advantageous.
