Communications Specialist - Digital Media

Position Overview

The Town of Vail is seeking a Communications Specialist focused on Digital Media to lead and manage the organization's online presence. This role includes content creation and strategy for websites, digital dashboards, engagement platforms, online calendars, and email marketing, ensuring alignment with the Town's brand standards and reputation for excellence. The specialist will collaborate with various departments and support crisis and emergency communications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive digital communications strategies across all platforms to enhance town engagement.
• Maintain consistent brand messaging across digital channels and handle public electronic inquiries professionally while fostering positive relationships with the community, media, and partners.
• Work closely with town departments to produce and update digital content meticulously; conduct routine audits to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Act as the main resource and trainer for department content contributors, ensuring content relevance and compliance with brand, usability, ADA, and style guidelines.
• Coordinate with the IT department to provide technical support for content contributors.
• Monitor digital analytics, set performance goals, and optimize user experience and engagement.
• Lead initiatives to enhance digital accessibility.
• Scout and assess emerging online engagement tools and improve processes continually.
• Assist with planning and executing town events, including community picnics and Vail Social.
• Serve as a Public Information Officer during emergencies, collaborating with police, fire, emergency services, and regional PIOs to deliver timely and accurate safety communications via digital channels.
• Demonstrate commitment to Town of Vail core values and execute duties safely and responsibly.

Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in digital communications, including diverse digital engagement platforms and outreach methods.
• Proficiency with multiple website content management systems and working knowledge of HTML.
• Strong expertise in email marketing platforms and database management.
• In-depth understanding of digital accessibility standards.
• Familiarity with graphic design software tools.
• Excellent writing and editing capabilities.
• Proven project management skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Capacity to work independently and efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Education and Certification Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
• At least three years of experience in a comparable role.
• Training and certification in the National Incident Management System is required.
