Job Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Cloud FinOps professional with over 8 years' IT and cloud experience, including more than 5 years working with Oracle, AWS, and Azure, and at least 3 years specializing in multi-cloud financial operations. This role will focus on leading cloud financial management, cost optimization, governance, and transparency initiatives across diverse cloud platforms. The successful candidate will develop and implement Cloud FinOps frameworks and practices to enhance cost efficiency and align cloud expenditure with business objectives by bridging engineering, finance, and leadership functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze cloud usage patterns to detect waste, underutilized assets, architecture inefficiencies, and anomalies.
- Guide engineering teams in resource rightsizing, modernizing architectures (e.g., shifting from IaaS to PaaS), and managing resource lifecycles.
- Oversee strategies and implementation of Reservations, Savings Plans, and Hybrid Benefits to maximize coverage and return on investment.
- Design and maintain strong tagging, resource grouping, and management frameworks to ensure precise cost allocation.
- Collaborate with Finance to create detailed show-back and chargeback models holding business units accountable for cloud spending.
- Set up automated budgets, forecasts, and anomaly detection using cloud-native cost management and third-party tools.
- Partner with cloud engineering leaders, application owners, finance teams, and executives to establish FinOps processes, KPIs, unit economics, optimization roadmaps, and conduct monthly FinOps reviews.
- Promote a cost-aware culture within engineering and product teams through knowledge sharing and leadership.
- Conduct FinOps review sessions with engineering groups, providing actionable insights and dashboards.
- Define and monitor key cloud metrics to ensure cloud spending aligns with business growth.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive IT/cloud experience (8+ years), including over 5 years in architectural design, deployment, or administration across Oracle, AWS, and Azure platforms covering compute, storage, networking, Kubernetes, containers, web apps, cloud databases, and PaaS.
- Strong expertise in cloud cost management using native Advisor tools, Reservations, Savings Plans, Policies, Monitoring, Log Analytics, Resource Graph, Management Groups, Landing Zones, RBAC, tagging strategies, and governance spanning IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- At least 3 years of focused experience in Cloud Financial Management (FinOps), including knowledge of FinOps frameworks and lifecycle management.
- Proficiency with cloud-native cost management, billing, Advisor tools, and reporting with Power BI; familiarity with third-party FinOps tools like CloudHealth or Apptio Cloudability is a plus.
- Strong automation and scripting abilities to build cost governance guardrails leveraging policy frameworks, cloud-native automation, PowerShell or CLI.
- Preferred certifications: Oracle Cloud Administrator, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, or Azure Administrator Associate; FinOps Certified Practitioner or Professional certification is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical details into financial context and vice versa for diverse stakeholders.
Education & Experience
- Minimum education: high school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of cloud administration experience; over 3 years dedicated to Cloud FinOps.
- Experience in developing Power BI or Excel dashboards preferred.
- Proven leadership in driving initiatives and teamwork.
Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of cloud-native cost management, billing, Advisor tools, IaaS and PaaS technologies.
- Strong knowledge of FinOps frameworks, procedures, and methodologies.
