Role Overview
The Civil Site Engineer will oversee daily civil construction operations onsite specifically on railway projects. Key duties include supervising earthwork, excavation, filling, embankments, compaction, and surface dressing. Additionally, they will manage WBM, PCC, RCC, concrete roads, drainage and retaining structures, and bridge-related construction activities, ensuring alignment with technical drawings and quality standards. Coordination with surveyors, subcontractors, suppliers, and various project stakeholders for smooth workflow and resource deployment is essential.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day construction work as per approved blueprints, BOQs, and specifications.
- Supervise earthmoving, embankment formation, and compaction tasks.
- Oversee execution of WBM, PCC, RCC, concrete roads, drainage, and bridge civil works.
- Ensure accuracy in line, level, alignment, and slopes by coordinating with survey teams.
- Inspect reinforcement, formwork, and concrete quality before and during concreting activities.
- Monitor utilization and productivity of labor and construction machinery like JCBs, excavators, rollers, mixers, and loaders.
- Prepare daily work schedules and efficiently allocate tasks to supervisors, laborers, and equipment.
- Maintain daily records of progress, labor deployment, machinery operation, and material usage.
- Take measurements of completed works and handle measurement book documentation and related billing assistance.
- Assess material needs and coordinate timely supply of construction materials.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality control procedures, and railway construction standards.
- Liaise with client, railway, and consultant officials during site inspections and technical issue resolution.
- Document site activities through photographs, test reports, and inspection records.
- Report project progress regularly to management and identify any delays or issues promptly.
- Drive economic and efficient use of materials, manpower, and machinery throughout project duration.
- Identify onsite challenges and collaborate with senior management for practical solutions.
- Take ownership of assigned work to ensure timely and quality completion.
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience with Indian Railways civil projects.
- Expertise in railway earthwork, embankment construction, formation, and rehabilitation.
- Familiarity with WBM, GSB, PCC, RCC works and related road construction.
- Experience in drainage, culvert, bridge and minor bridge civil works.
- Skillful in earthwork quantity measurement and MB (Measurement Book) preparation.
- Ability to coordinate with railway officials and consultants effectively.
- Competence operating and managing construction machinery and labor teams.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong practical understanding of civil construction processes and site management.
- Capability to independently manage and run a construction site.
- Solid knowledge of construction drawings, BOQs, specifications, and quantity estimations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel is advantageous.
- Good comprehension of surveying techniques, leveling, and accurate measurements.
- Abilities in managing labor, machinery, and subcontractor coordination.
- Effective communication and reporting capabilities.
- Strong coordination skills and problem-solving aptitude at site level.
- Willingness to work on railway project sites with required travel and relocation.
- Responsible, disciplined, and ownership mindset towards assigned tasks.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
A Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Civil Engineering is required. Candidates should have 3-5 years of relevant field experience in civil construction, with preference for those having direct railway project execution background.
Additional Information
This position is heavily field-oriented, emphasizing practical execution rather than theoretical or purely design roles. The selected engineer will be accountable for comprehensive site execution management encompassing manpower, machinery, quality, measurements, and progress tracking.
