Role Overview
Community HealthCare Association of the Dakotas (CHAD) is looking for a strategic and mission-driven leader to step into the Chief Executive Officer role. This position offers the chance to influence the direction of community health, expand access to care, and create lasting impact in North Dakota and South Dakota.
CHAD represents community health centers across the Dakotas and supports rural and underserved communities through advocacy, innovation, workforce development, and partnerships that strengthen healthcare delivery.
What the CEO Will Lead
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for CHAD’s overall strategy, day-to-day operations, advocacy agenda, and long-term organizational growth. The role also serves as the organization’s primary representative, developing relationships that improve healthcare access and community health outcomes across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the direction for CHAD, the Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN), and the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN).
- Work closely with the Board to advance strategic goals and support strong governance practices.
- Build and sustain a high-performing culture centered on teamwork, accountability, innovation, and excellent service.
- Support the growth of employees and future leaders through development opportunities.
- Direct advocacy efforts and represent CHAD with policymakers, funders, and healthcare stakeholders.
- Deepen member involvement and develop partnerships throughout North and South Dakota.
- Oversee fiscal stewardship, compliance, grant management, and long-term organizational sustainability.
- Promote workforce development and encourage data-informed decisions across member organizations.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, business, public policy, or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in community health, healthcare, public health, or a similar field.
- Demonstrated ability in strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and financial oversight.
- Background leading complex organizations, multi-program operations, or multiple sites.
- Working knowledge of healthcare systems, financing, and community-based care in the Dakotas.
Why This Role Stands Out
CHAD has spent more than 35 years advancing access to affordable, high-quality healthcare across North and South Dakota. This is a chance to join a purpose-led organization focused on healthier communities and stronger healthcare systems.
Benefits and Perks
- Employer covers 100% of health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance premiums.
- Retirement plan with employer matching up to 6%.
- Generous paid time off plus 11 paid holidays.
- Fully remote work setup.
- Wellness time and an office stipend.
- Work that directly supports better healthcare access across the Dakotas.
Location, Travel, and Schedule
This is a remote role, but the person hired must be based in North Dakota or South Dakota. The position involves regular travel across both states, plus occasional regional and national travel for meetings and conferences. Evening and weekend availability may sometimes be needed.
Compensation
The expected starting salary range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants whose background exceeds the role’s requirements may be considered for pay above the stated range if exceptionally qualified.
Additional Information
CHAD is seeking a visionary executive who can help guide the future of community health, expand access to care, and deliver meaningful long-term impact across North Dakota and South Dakota.
