Driven by a mission to make a positive difference, we provide support, safety, community, and opportunities to individuals and communities during times of personal and national challenges.
Position Overview
This role is unlike typical retail positions. Based at our Winnellie Mega Store—one of the biggest Salvation Army stores nationwide spanning over 1,500 sqm and managing thousands of donated items daily—this is a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring stamina, adaptability, and a genuine passion for staying active.
The ideal candidate relishes working in a dynamic setting, stays energized standing throughout the day, and maintains both productivity and positivity in an energetic atmosphere.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct retail sales and efficiently operate Point of Sale (POS) systems.
- Sort, price, and prepare donated goods for sale.
- Support the creation and coordination of visual merchandising and maintain attractive store presentation.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to all shoppers.
- Organize stock appropriately into correct departments following internal policies and procedures.
- Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and practices.
- Uphold The Salvation Army’s core values in all work activities.
Candidate Attributes
- Bring enthusiasm, energy, and a positive attitude daily.
- Enjoy engaging in a busy, hands-on retail environment with constant activity.
- Effectively multitask while maintaining attention to detail and pace.
- Adapt swiftly to changing priorities during shifts.
- Maintain resilience and positivity during peak busy periods while providing excellent customer care.
- Be physically capable, including manual handling tasks such as moving furniture, stock cages, and lifting items up to 15 kg safely.
- Exhibit initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently as necessary.
- Demonstrate self-awareness and lead by example; provide guidance and morale support to colleagues when appropriate.
- Embody The Salvation Army’s values: integrity, respect, compassion, collaboration, and diversity.
Availability Requirements
- Flexibility to work shifts between 8:45 am and 5:45 pm, with varying start and finish times.
- Availability to work Saturdays as part of a rotating roster.
- Willingness to work across multiple retail locations as needed.
Benefits
- Access to salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 tax-free plus $2,650 for meal and entertainment benefits.
- Various consumer discounts available to employees.
- Access to Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and health and wellness initiatives.
- Ongoing training and skill development opportunities to enhance workplace competencies.
- Meaningful, purpose-driven career that contributes to positive and sustainable social impacts.
- Employee discount available at staff store.

This position is not suitable for applicants seeking standard school hours or Monday to Friday work only.
