Abbott Diabetes Care Kilkenny
The Kilkenny site is a newer Abbott Diabetes Care facility equipped with advanced technology to produce FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors used in diabetes management. Key product families include FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite, and FreeStyle Libre.
Role Summary
In this position, you will carry out calibration work on manufacturing, testing, and measuring equipment. The role directly affects the precision of measurement and process systems, which in turn influences product quality and supports compliance with quality system and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out calibration and adjustment activities on a range of instruments used to measure pressure, temperature, humidity, flow, mass, and other parameters.
- Keep complete and accurate records of calibration work, including certificates, procedures, test outcomes, and equipment history, while maintaining alignment with quality and regulatory standards.
- Diagnose issues with mechanical and electronic measuring equipment and apply corrective actions to restore proper operation.
- Work closely with quality control and quality assurance teams to confirm that calibrated instruments meet required specifications and participate in audits as needed.
- Test and validate new instruments and equipment before they are released into service.
- Partner with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve calibration issues and provide technical input and support.
- Remain informed about current calibration practices, metrology standards, and technology developments, and suggest improvements to procedures and protocols to preserve compliance.
- Train equipment users on correct handling and care, and explain the importance of accurate measurement and the calibration process.
Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant third-level qualification in Engineering or Science is required.
- At least 5 years of experience in calibration or metrology within the medical or pharmaceutical sector is required.
- Experience handling a broad range of instruments and metrology standards is preferred.
- Prior exposure to an ISO 17025 metrology laboratory is preferred.
- A working understanding of measurement uncertainty and the 4:1 ratio is required.
