Role Overview
The Audio Visual Technician role is a full-time, on-premises position located in Hamilton. Responsibilities include assembling, operating, and dismantling audio, visual, and lighting equipment for a broad spectrum of events while ensuring reliability and safety at all times. Daily activities involve installing AV systems, setting up projectors and video conferencing hardware, focusing and programming lighting instruments, and performing sound checks. The technician is tasked with diagnosing and resolving technical issues during events, maintaining and inspecting equipment between bookings, and collaborating with event coordinators, clients, and fellow technicians to fulfill event requirements and deadlines. The position may demand evening and weekend availability, emphasizing a practical and meticulous approach to executing exceptional event experiences.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of AV systems and gear, including installation, configuration, and routine maintenance.
- Competence in troubleshooting technical challenges involving audio, video, and control systems under pressure.
- Experience with video conferencing tools and integrating hardware for live and hybrid events.
- Hands-on involvement with lighting systems, including fixture handling, control devices, and fundamental lighting design principles.
- Proficiency with projectors, screens, and managing signal routing for presentations and large displays.
- Strong grasp of signal pathways, cabling standards, and safe equipment handling practices.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities, capable of adhering to event plans and client directions.
- Excellent organizational skills, dependability, and keen attention to detail within dynamic event settings.
- Physical capability to carry and manage equipment and be present onsite for extended durations; holding a full driver's license is advantageous.
- Previous engagement in events, theatre, live production, or related AV disciplines preferred but not essential; possession of relevant certifications or technical training is beneficial.
