Job Overview
The Assistant Program Director will support the management of the Learning & Discovery Afterschool Program and potentially the Summer Program, guided by the Senior Program Director. This role is vital for maintaining a safe, positive, and enriching environment aligned with the Henrico Education Foundation's mission, policies, and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior Program Director to oversee operations of afterschool and summer programs, ensuring policy enforcement, program planning, implementation, and staff training/coaching.
- Participate directly in program delivery and serve as a contact point for program staff to support their job performance through training, coaching, and task oversight.
- Assist in developing program lessons, organizing activities, and managing supplies.
- Administer medication to students as needed, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and guidelines from government and local authorities, including VDOE, HCPS, and 21st Century grant standards.
- Under direction of the Center Director, execute staff meetings and daily briefings, administer programming surveys, manage attendance records in Eleyo, and communicate student headcounts to cafeteria staff.
- Conduct safety drills such as monthly fire drills and biannual shelter-in-place drills.
- Maintain up-to-date licensing documentation and prepare for monitoring and licensing inspections.
- Keep comprehensive records on students, including allergies and medications.
- Perform operational tasks like parent pick-up, group assembly, and closing duties.
- Build and maintain robust partnerships with Henrico County Public Schools personnel and other stakeholders, ensuring professional communication and facility use.
- Manage relationships with parents, vendors, and staff, providing timely responses to inquiries and complaints.
- Act as a secondary on-site contact for vendors.
- Promote the Foundation’s mission and objectives internally and externally.
- Coordinate with school staff to align afterschool and out-of-school programs with school day initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must meet or be pursuing Virginia child care regulations for Assistant Program Directors, with one of the following educational combinations:
- Graduate degree in a child-related field (e.g., elementary education, nursing, recreation) plus six months program experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or endorsement in a child-related field with one year of program experience.
- Completion of 48 semester hours (or 72 quarter hours) college credit including at least 12 semester hours (or 18 quarter hours) in child-related subjects and one year of experience.
- Prior experience working with students and in licensed child care or grant-funded education programs.

Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage ranges from $20 to $22.
- Work schedule offers 20 to 29 hours weekly with no weekend shifts.
