Job Overview
The Assistant Laundry Manager holds the primary responsibility for leading and managing the Laundry and Uniform Departments to achieve operational excellence. This role ensures smooth laundry operations, efficient linen and uniform management, staff performance monitoring, quality control, and exceptional guest service in line with ultra-luxury brand standards. Supporting the Director of Housekeeping, the incumbent drives cost control, quality assurance, compliance with Laundry Quality Assurance (LQA), and associate engagement to uphold department performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all daily laundry department activities and workflow management as the senior operational leader.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop laundry supervisors, attendants, pressers, and uniform room staff.
- Ensure strict adherence to Rosewood brand standards, LQA criteria, and departmental SOPs.
- Promote a culture emphasizing professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and high service quality.
- Develop, update, and implement departmental SOPs covering laundry and uniform operations.
- Oversee complete laundry services including guest laundry, dry cleaning, valet services, uniforms, and hotel linen processing.
- Maintain rigorous quality control for washing, pressing, finishing, and garment handling processes.
- Manage linen and uniform stock levels ensuring continuous service across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, and Public areas.
- Ensure proper segregation, handling, storage, and distribution of all textile items.
- Supervise uniform issuance, alterations, repairs, discards, and replacement schedules.
- Conduct regular inspections of linen and uniform rooms, machinery zones, and storage areas to maintain readiness for audits and quality checks.
- Identify operational deficiencies and implement corrective measures quickly.
- Monitor departmental payroll, staff productivity, and efficiency against budget controls.
- Prepare and manage duty rosters aligned with operational forecasts and business needs.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for linen, uniforms, and discarded items monthly.
- Track linen losses and discrepancies reporting them to the Director of Housekeeping.
- Keep detailed records of laundry weights, dry cleaning services, and external vendor interactions.
- Recruit, onboard, and train laundry and uniform room personnel with ongoing development initiatives.
- Provide training on machinery operation, chemical safety, textile care, and relevant safety procedures.
- Conduct performance reviews, departmental briefings, and coaching to foster team growth.
- Coordinate HR matters including disciplinary actions, recognition programs, leave management, and staffing.
- Maintain a positive, diverse, and high-performance work environment.
- Ensure timely, accurate processing of guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing services.
- Handle guest complaints discreetly and professionally in collaboration with Housekeeping leadership.
- Provide attentive, courteous service, including personalized care for VIP and long-stay guest garments.
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of laundry machinery integrating preventive repairs with Engineering and vendors.
- Monitor and enforce chemical storage, use, and safety compliance.
- Maintain professional relations with suppliers of linen, uniforms, chemicals, equipment, and external laundry services.
- Adhere strictly to OSHAD/OSHA and Rosewood OSHMS health and safety standards.
- Identify, report, and manage health and safety hazards, including training employees on PPE and emergency protocols.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of procedures, audits, operational reports, inventories, payroll data, and compliance records.
- Participate in departmental and Rooms Division meetings as required and manage special projects as assigned.
- Overall accountability for laundry department performance, quality, compliance, cost control, staff conduct, and adherence to brand and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience managing laundry operations, preferably within luxury or ultra-luxury hotel environments.
- High school diploma education.
- Proficient in operating laundry and dry cleaning equipment and handling chemicals safely.
- Physical ability to manage movement of laundry textiles and operate machinery with attentiveness and care.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting business reports and financial data related to budgets.
- Capability to plan, organize, and manage departmental activities effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional language proficiency preferred.
- Ability to maintain guest confidentiality and cooperation within team settings.
- Sound judgment to resolve problems calmly and effectively under pressure.
