Position Summary

The Assistant Director in the Student Success Center will provide leadership and direction for student success, academic advising, and onboarding initiatives. This role supports the center’s strategic goals and helps shape programs that improve student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a coordinated support model covering academics, advising, career guidance, and financial aid resources for students.
  • Directly manage and support a team of student success advisors.
  • Oversee recruitment efforts for NashGRAD and Flex participants, working closely with other college departments and MNPS schools.
  • Create and execute initiatives aimed at strengthening retention and academic performance for NashGRAD and Flex students, in partnership with advisors and career services staff.
  • Handle a student caseload by clarifying goals, monitoring academic progress, and directing students to appropriate referrals or opportunity programs.
  • Maintain detailed case notes and track student data for assigned caseloads.
  • Provide student advising both in person and virtually.
  • Prepare reports for college leadership, the College Foundation, Metro Davidson City Council, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Collaborate with faculty and college staff to enhance student support services.
  • Assist with annual recruitment and registration efforts.
  • Support the planning and delivery of retention-focused institutional activities.
  • Represent the department at campus and community meetings, sharing outreach and marketing information.
  • Step in to oversee department operations when the director is unavailable.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in higher education student services and/or advising is required.
  • Prior experience in a community college environment is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience is preferred.
  • Background in overseeing student programs or services is preferred.
