Position overview
Eastern Washington University’s Department of Athletics is looking for a collaborative, organized professional to lead special projects, activity development, and event-related administration. Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/CFO, this role helps coordinate department initiatives, supports revenue-generating efforts, and contributes to strategic priorities across athletics.
The appointment is full-time and runs 12 months each year. It is based in Cheney, Washington, with a work pattern that is primarily Monday through Friday, though evenings and weekends may be required depending on office and event needs.
The position begins at a salary between $47,063 and $50,000, with the starting point determined by the selected candidate’s education, experience, and skills.
Key duties
This role leads planning and coordination for athletics events and department initiatives, supports development-related activity, contributes to strategic planning, assists with NIL-related processes, and provides administrative help with budgets, receipts, fundraising tools, and internal reporting.
Event responsibilities may include major athletics gatherings such as the Night of Champions fundraiser, Welcome Back BBQ, home games, staff events, and similar departmental functions. The position also acts as a representative for the athletics director in development-focused work and helps manage concessions, 50/50 raffle activity, and related revenue efforts.
Strategic and project work
The role supports implementation of athletics objectives and key results aligned with the university strategic plan, monitors progress, and helps assess whether initiatives are effective. It also includes special assignments from the Director of Athletics, such as research projects and grant-related work for the athletics department.
NIL and administrative support
This position assists with opt-in support for revenue sharing across the department and enters information into NIL GO, CAPS, and similar systems. It also supports the business office by helping reconcile event receipts and budgets, and serves as an administrator for OneCause, the athletics fundraising platform used for fundraisers and alumni events.
Campus coordination and additional duties
The role serves as a liaison with campus partners for event planning, dining services, and other operational needs tied to athletics programming.
Salary and benefits
EWU offers a full benefits package that includes health insurance, disability coverage, and retirement benefits. Additional perks include generous vacation and sick leave accruals, 12 paid holidays each year, tuition waiver options for employees and eligible family members, discounted EWU sports tickets, access to campus workout facilities for a minimal fee, and free STA bus transportation. Insurance details are available through the university benefits page.
Application timeline and hiring notes
Applications are reviewed as they are received, and screening begins right away. The recruitment is scheduled to close at midnight on Sunday, July 5, 2026, with a three-day notice given before the posting closes. References will not be contacted until candidates have been informed.
Institutional background
Eastern Washington University is a public, regional, comprehensive university serving more than 10,000 students. Its main campus is in Cheney, and it also operates in Spokane and other locations across the state. The university emphasizes hands-on learning, career readiness, and access for students from all backgrounds.
Equal opportunity and inclusion
EWU is committed to an inclusive workplace and does not discriminate based on protected characteristics under state or federal law. The university also recognizes and honors the Spokane Tribe and other Indigenous nations connected to the region, and affirms tribal sovereignty and government-to-government relationships.
Conditions of employment
Employment is contingent on a successful background check. Because the role involves university funds and may involve unsupervised access to vulnerable populations, the candidate must meet those screening requirements before starting.
Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States. EWU is not able to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
New employees must comply with the university immunization policy and provide proof of immunity or vaccination for MMR before beginning work, unless a valid waiver is approved for medical or sincerely held religious reasons.
This is an exempt administrative position under university policy. After hiring, required training will be completed through Canvas, and workplace belonging training will be assigned through the Office of Employee Belonging, Development, and Leadership. Interviews may be held via Zoom, so candidates should be comfortable using Zoom with video enabled and other related technologies.
Physical and work-related notes
The essential functions analysis can be requested from Human Resources. Public and personal protection mandates should be followed as required.
Application materials
Applicants are asked to submit a detailed cover letter explaining how they meet the required qualifications, along with a chronological resume that includes work history, major duties, education, and relevant training or skills. Three professional references are also required, including names, titles, organization names, phone numbers, email addresses, and the relationship to the applicant. Candidates must complete the online application and answer the posted questions, if applicable. A mission statement response is also required, describing how the applicant would contribute to EWU’s commitment to inclusive, equitable, transformative education and support for first-generation and Pell-eligible students.
Resumes should not include photos.
Work schedule
Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with evening and weekend work possible based on office demands and event schedules.
