Architectural Metalwork CAD Technician / Draughtsperson

About the Role

Andy Thornton Ltd is seeking a dedicated Architectural Metalwork CAD Technician / Draughtsperson to be part of our Architectural Metalwork Department located in Elland, West Yorkshire. This permanent role is open for both full-time and part-time employment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Draughtsman to produce precise AutoCAD drawings that cover custom architectural metalwork projects such as verandas, canopies, bandstands, gazebos, pavilions, and other decorative metalwork structures.

Key Responsibilities

• Create exact technical AutoCAD drawings tailored for client approval, manufacturing, and site installation processes.
• Prepare detailed fabrication, workshop, and installation drawings based on architectural and engineering specifications.
• Interpret complex drawings, specifications, and project criteria accurately.
• Revise and update drawings as necessary throughout the duration of projects.
• Collaborate effectively with the Senior Draughtsman and manufacturing teams to ensure project success.
• Communicate and coordinate with architects, designers, contractors, and other project participants to ensure smooth delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

• Highly proficient in AutoCAD or comparable CAD software.
• Capable of producing clear, detailed, and precise technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail with an exacting approach.
• Ability to read and understand architectural and construction drawings thoroughly.
• Good communication abilities complemented by strong organizational skills.
• Competent in Microsoft Office suite applications.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Background in architectural metalwork, steel fabrication, construction, or similar industries.
• Experience in generating fabrication and workshop-specific drawings.
• Understanding of manufacturing and installation workflows.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD software is advantageous but not required.
