Airfield Sweeping Technician - Secret Clearance

Role overview

The Airfield Sweeping Technician is responsible for keeping airfield paved areas clear of foreign object debris (FOD) so aircraft operations can continue safely at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The role involves operating sweeping machinery, carrying out inspections, and following required safety, security, and operating procedures under U.S. military, host nation, and contract standards.

Key duties

• Drive and operate airfield sweeping equipment such as mechanical sweepers and vacuum sweepers.
• Remove debris and FOD from runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, and shoulders.
• Inspect airfield surfaces before sweeping, while work is underway, and after operations are complete.
• Apply airfield safety practices and FOD prevention measures at all times.
• Coordinate access to movement areas with Airfield Management and Air Traffic Control when instructed.
• Complete inspection forms, activity logs, and operational reports as required.
• Carry out basic preventive checks on sweepers and related vehicles.
• Recognize and report equipment defects and safety concerns promptly.
• Use the required personal protective equipment and comply with all safety and security rules.
• Assist with emergency or urgent airfield cleaning tasks when needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
• Between 1 and 3 years of experience in airfield operations, airfield maintenance, or sweeping work.
• Working knowledge of FOD prevention methods and airfield safety procedures.
• Ability to operate heavy-duty or specialized sweeping equipment.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license is required.
• Valid U.S. passport is preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and keep a valid Qatar residency visa.
• Comfortable working in harsh conditions, including dust and high heat.
• Must be able to handle long shifts and exposure to weather and hazardous environments.
• Must have and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
• Travel requirement is 100% in a deployed location.
