Overview
The Admissions Director plays a key role in supporting the facility's operations by driving the increase of resident census through effective admissions management. This position requires overseeing the admissions department's daily activities to meet census goals and ensure residents are admitted professionally and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently manage the entire admissions process to deliver a positive experience for residents, their families, and supporting personnel.
- Plan, direct, and supervise daily operations of the Admissions Department, ensuring census targets are achieved.
- Facilitate patient admissions by screening against entry criteria, completing admission and financial forms.
- Develop, implement, and interpret Sales and Marketing goals, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with leaders across departments for timely and accurate communication to improve admissions experience.
- Verify insurance benefit coverage meets admission standards.
- Coordinate physical, social, emotional, and support service requirements, including transportation logistics.
- Obtain and verify applicant information through completed forms, medical details, interviews with applicants and families, and explanation of admission criteria.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of facility services to educate referral sources effectively.
- Manage patient bed assignments and oversee completion of necessary preliminary admission paperwork.
- Perform additional department-specific projects and tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- Foster a warm, inviting, and calm facility atmosphere.
- Complete resident intake process and coordinate with Director of Nursing or Case Manager to ensure admission appropriateness.
- Maintain accurate records of bed availability and communicate updates accordingly.
- Build and sustain relationships with physicians, social workers, and discharge planners to maximize referrals and admissions.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings.
- Understand and adhere to safety protocols including Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information and report any suspected breaches.
- Assist in organizing outreach events like health fairs and educational programs aimed at attracting key referral sources.
- Keep professional knowledge current through educational activities and networking.
Supervisory Role
This position includes supervisory responsibilities over admissions staff.
Qualifications
- Minimum educational requirement: High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field is preferred.
- At least two years of admissions experience preferred.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong reading and analytical skills to interpret business and governmental regulations.
- Effective written communication for reports and procedural documentation.
- Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills for interaction with management and employees.
- Mathematical ability to apply ratios, percentages, and proportions practically.
- Problem-solving aptitude to handle diverse situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in multiple formats.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products is required.
Physical and Work Environment
- Occasional lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
- Prolonged periods working at computer workstations.
- Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, talking, reading, and hearing.
- Frequent use of office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax, telephone, and calculator.
- Potential need to assist in emergency resident evacuation.
- Generally low to moderate noise levels are present in the work environment.
