Utility Worker

Role Overview

Sodexo is hiring a Utility Worker for The University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. The role supports kitchen and facility operations by keeping food production and service spaces clean, sanitary, and well organized. It also involves handling equipment, utensils, supplies, and routine setup and cleanup tasks as needed.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time onsite position. Shifts and workdays can change, and the schedule may include different days and hours. Open availability is preferred, and additional schedule details will be shared during the interview.

Compensation

The pay for this role ranges from $7.25 per hour to $21.30 per hour.

Key Duties

• Manually wash dishes or operate a dishwashing machine.
• Clean and disinfect worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and otherwise maintain floor cleanliness.
• Remove trash and waste to the appropriate disposal areas.
• Use designated cleaning chemicals to keep equipment sanitary.
• Restock items such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials.
• Support setup and teardown tasks when directed.
• Maintain regular attendance and arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
• Complete additional duties based on business needs and client requirements.
• Be prepared for significant walking, standing for long periods, and shifts that may exceed 8 hours.
• Be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, frequently lift up to 35 pounds, and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.

Required Background

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent practical experience.
• No prior related work experience is required.
• Basic knowledge of sanitation practices and food safety principles is expected.
