OceanaGold is guided by the values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Performance, and Teamwork. The company aims to be a trusted employer, business partner, and investment choice by building lasting value for all stakeholders.
Role Overview
This position requires prior underground mining experience. The Macraes operation is a residential mine, offering a drive-in/drive-out lifestyle for people living near Dunedin or Oamaru, rather than a FIFO arrangement. The location also gives access to Otago’s scenery, beaches, and outdoor activities, with Queenstown about three hours away.
The Underground Macraes team is looking for an All Rounder Operator to provide flexible, multi-skilled support to the Underground Production Team. The role involves safely running a range of underground equipment, maintaining a professional standard, and helping deliver productive and cost-effective outcomes.
Key Duties
- Operate productively and competently in Development Charge, Production Charge, and Remote Loader roles.
- Work under supervision when using the Production Drill, Cable Bolter, Jumbo Drill, and Spraymec Unit.
- Maintain early and clear communication with trucking and bogging crews so remote operations are interrupted as little as possible.
- Look for ways to improve productivity and safety during stope bogging, including increasing fibre use where appropriate.
- Use tele-remote systems to move ore from stopes to ore passes and stockpiles.
- Carry out loading of development headings, complete clean-up work to standard, and move material to stockpiles and trucks.
- Keep accurate daily records, complete machinery paperwork, and provide timely reporting.
- Minimise equipment damage and report any issues immediately.
Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
- A full, current driver’s licence is required, along with the ability to drive manual vehicles confidently.
- Must be competent in Development Charge, Production Charge, and Remote Loader operator duties.
- Service Crew Ticket is preferred.
- Water Down and Scaling Ticket is preferred.
- Current Certified/Approved Handler Certificate is preferred.
- Controlled Substance Licence is preferred.
- First Aid Certificate is required.
- At least 5 years of underground metalliferous mining experience in development and production methods.
- Strong safety performance record.
- Mentoring, coaching, or training experience would be beneficial.
- Competency in Jumbo Drill, Production Drill, Cable Bolter, or Spraymec Unit would be an advantage.
