Translations Officer

Role Overview

The Translations Officer is responsible for delivering precise, timely translations and interpretation services in both Arabic and English. This role involves handling official documents, reports, forms, and various specialized content, ensuring accuracy, contextual relevance, and adherence to organizational standards. The officer will assist MATAR management and multiple stakeholders by providing high-quality linguistic support and managing translation workflows efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate official correspondences, policies, legal and aviation-related documents, technical reports, and business materials between Arabic and English with precision and contextual appropriateness.
• Communicate with internal and external parties to clarify ambiguities in source texts or terminologies prior to finalizing translations.
• Apply careful judgment in translating sensitive, technical, or executive-level documents to reflect intended tone, meaning, and terminology accurately.
• Conduct research on specialized vocabulary in legal, aviation, governmental, and business sectors to maintain translation accuracy and consistency.
• Maintain and utilize approved bilingual glossaries, terminology lists, style guides, and other references to ensure uniformity and compliance with legal and corporate standards.
• Proofread, edit, format, and verify translated output, including work by departmental staff or external translators, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformity to templates and standards.
• Prepare final documents that are professionally presented and suitable for official dissemination or internal use.
• Offer verbal interpretation support at meetings, conferences, workshops, and official events when required to facilitate communication between Arabic and English speakers.
• Collaborate with Document Control to manage proper version control, classification, filing, and retrieval of translated documents respecting information governance policies.
• Manage translation requests by prioritizing workload based on urgency and complexity, maintaining logs, and reporting progress to meet service-level expectations and KPIs.
• Leverage translation memory tools, CAT software, SharePoint, and document management systems to enhance work efficiency and maintain translation consistency and traceability.
• Support process improvements by identifying repetitive tasks and suggesting automation or workflow optimizations to improve translation service delivery.
• Identify translation quality issues or workflow challenges and propose actionable solutions to enhance turnaround, quality, and consistency.
• Review and provide quality assurance on translations performed by junior colleagues or external suppliers to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Train and guide junior or new staff on approved translation methodologies, file management, and terminology usage.
• Assist in internal reviews, quality audits, and sampling activities to ensure ongoing adherence to quality and compliance requirements.
• Strictly maintain confidentiality, integrity, and security of sensitive or classified information during all translation and interpretation tasks.
• Exhibit professionalism and discretion in handling translation requests and communications, contributing positively to service excellence and organizational reputation.
• Adapt to urgent or large-scale translation demands, providing backup support to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
• Carry out additional duties related to the role as assigned by management.
