Technical Project Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead the coordination and execution of technical programs spanning multiple teams. This role is central to delivery, managing dependencies, timelines, and providing transparent status updates to leadership. While technical understanding of architecture, integrations, and infrastructure trade-offs is essential, the primary focus is on program management rather than coding.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities across diverse teams such as frontend, backend, data engineering, machine learning, and SRE by sequencing tasks and resolving dependencies.
• Oversee end-to-end delivery of projects including platform initiatives, internal tools, infrastructure tasks, and product launches from inception through deployment.
• Maintain detailed project plans and timelines, assess and mitigate risks, and communicate clear updates to senior management.
• Manage intake and capacity by triaging requests in Jira, clarifying requirements, eliminating duplicates, routing them appropriately, and ensuring work progresses asynchronously without delays.
• Facilitate a Scrum-of-Scrums style meeting to drive alignment across teams, relaying capacity and dependency insights to portfolio and roadmap sessions.
• Highlight critical trade-offs when resources are contested between products, providing data-backed insights to support leadership decision-making.

Collaboration

• Work alongside Product Owners who set priorities, sequencing and ensuring delivery while identifying conflicts and supporting decisions with product and technical leadership.
• Partner with Tech Leads and engineering leaders who define the architecture, alerting to technical risks but leaving engineering choices to them.
• Utilize sprint outcomes provided by Scrum Masters to maintain accurate cross-team planning.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of experience in technical project or program management with a focus on software and infrastructure projects involving multiple teams.
• Technical proficiency to understand system architecture, APIs, integrations, infrastructure considerations, and performance trade-offs.
• Strong skills in dependency management and risk mitigation, with hands-on experience using Jira.
• Effective coordination of distributed teams across different time zones.
• Excellent written communication skills capable of distilling complex technical information into clear updates for executives.
• Experience in programmatic advertising or ad-tech is a significant advantage.
• Proven ability to establish project or program management practices in environments where none previously existed is a plus.

Certifications

Preferred but not mandatory certifications include PMP, PgMP, PSM, or similar credentials, with a stronger emphasis on demonstrated experience over formal qualifications.

Location and Work Arrangement

Hybrid working model: NYC-area candidates work two days per week onsite; fully remote work available for US candidates outside NYC.

Compensation

Salary range: $150,000 to $170,000 per year.
