Supervisor – Flying Squad

Role overview

This position is based in Singapore within the Diesel Department and reports to the Technical Manager – Diesel. The role calls for a hands-on leader who can supervise technicians, coordinate field work, and ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and within commercial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead by example in the field by setting the standard for attitude, workmanship, customer focus, and job profitability while guiding and supervising team members.
• Support disciplinary and counselling steps when subordinates break rules or procedures.
• Carry out inspection, installation including engine alignment, repair, upgrading, troubleshooting, and overhaul work on diesel engines and related auxiliary equipment.
• Communicate professionally with agents, shipowner representatives, classification societies, Goltens, and subcontractors by email and phone, including arranging work access and entry permits.
• Keep customers and the department manager informed in a timely manner about job progress and technical concerns.
• Prepare risk assessments and job checklists for the assigned scope.
• Plan the work in detail, including technical references, manpower, schedules, tools, equipment, and daily toolbox meetings at job start.
• Submit timesheets accurately and on time.
• Monitor labour hours and material use to keep the job within budget, and ensure miscellaneous costs are recorded and MR requests and job folder updates are issued promptly.
• Coordinate with the customer internally and update the department manager when additional work is required, ensuring the right paperwork and approvals are in place.
• Work with the department manager on flight bookings and transport arrangements for personnel and materials.
• Prepare handwritten work-completed records with data captured in the required format, along with service reports and photos after the job is finished.
• Produce formal investigation reports with photographs in the Singapore company format when needed.
• Provide repair recommendations, breakdown/failure analysis, and corrective actions during the course of work.
• Compile spare-part requirements for overhaul and repair work.
• Prepare a Gantt-style work schedule in the Singapore format.
• Maintain strong knowledge of slow-, medium-, and high-speed diesel engines as well as gas engines.
• Keep tools in good condition and ensure proper housekeeping at all work sites.
• Ensure testing and monitoring equipment and instruments are identified, maintained, and kept in working order at all times.
• Read and interpret drawings, manuals, and code specifications.
• Always place safety and health first for yourself and colleagues, and follow the company’s environment, health, and safety policy.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and experience

• A diploma in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required.
• At least 5 years of experience working with engine makers and in the Marine, Offshore, or Power Generation industry.
• Knowledge of high-speed Caterpillar engines is preferred.
• Sailing experience and a Seaman Book are preferred.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
• Fluent English speaking and report-writing ability.
• Ability to perform under pressure and work independently in a professional and efficient manner.
• A continuous-improvement mindset is expected.
• Willingness to travel frequently is required.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organisation, and time-management skills, with a collaborative team attitude and integrity.
• Experience or exposure in the Marine or Offshore industry is required.
