Within Azure Data, the databases team is dedicated to creating and sustaining operational database systems that structure and manage data efficiently for diverse industrial applications. Their objective is to develop developer-friendly, mission-critical, AI-enhanced operational databases that span relational, non-relational, and open-source software offerings.

The Rollouts & Upgrades team for Azure PostgreSQL is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement highly scalable solutions responsible for upgrading PostgreSQL servers across the global infrastructure. Candidates will also mentor peers and contribute positively to team culture and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in architecture and design conversations focused on delivering highly reliable, scalable, and performant rollouts and upgrades solutions.
• Develop extensible, maintainable, and robust code that comprehensively handles edge cases, utilizing metrics to monitor quality, stability, and adherence to best coding practices.
• Conduct code reviews ensuring conformity to coding standards while considering diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability, and determining readiness for deployment.
• Lead initiatives to improve code coverage by implementing new tests.
• Manage live service operations and address emerging issues through a rotational on-call schedule.
• Foster a continuous improvement culture emphasizing adaptability, reflection, and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant technical field with proficient programming skills in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent practical experience.
• Master’s degree or 2+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated coding proficiency in the mentioned programming languages is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience delivering system-level features in enterprise backend server environments.
• Minimum 2 years experience in designing and maintaining distributed cloud services with production-quality standards.
• Successful clearance of Microsoft Cloud background check upon hiring and recurrently every two years.
