Position Overview

We are currently seeking a vigilant and proactive School Lifeguard to ensure the safe management of our aquatic facilities. This role collaborates closely with physical education teachers, swim instructors, operations personnel, external providers, and the broader school community. As a start-up school, the position plays a crucial role in establishing safety protocols, preparing the pool for use, and fostering a culture of health, safety, and wellbeing from inception.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously supervise swimming activities, guaranteeing safety for students, staff, visitors, and external users.
• Prepare the pool and aquatic facilities for opening, ensuring safety equipment, signage, rescue gear, and emergency protocols are fully in place.
• Perform regular safety inspections of pool areas, changing rooms, and equipment, promptly reporting hazards or maintenance needs.
• Enforce pool rules and safety procedures consistently to maintain a secure and positive environment.
• Conduct water quality tests as per regulations and school guidelines, maintain records, and escalate issues as necessary.
• Assist with preparation for lessons, swimming programs, competitions, and school events.
• Ensure rescue apparatus, first aid supplies, and emergency communication tools are functional and accessible.
• Contribute to developing and implementing operational procedures, risk assessments, and emergency plans suitable for a new school.
• Support PE staff and swimming instructors by maintaining a safe environment conducive to quality aquatic instruction.
• Foster positive student relationships, promoting confidence, respect, and safe pool behavior.
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding safety protocols and facility expectations.
• Provide reassurance to students needing additional support in aquatic activities.
• Encourage a culture of water safety awareness and personal responsibility.
• Coordinate with external swimming providers to ensure adherence to policies and safety measures.
• Keep accurate logs of pool operations, water tests, maintenance, incident reports, and emergency drills.
• Monitor and promote compliance with health and safety standards, identify risks, and recommend improvements.
• Report incidents, safeguarding concerns, and near misses in line with school procedures.
• Assist with maintaining inventories of rescue and first aid equipment, chemicals, and resources.
• Participate in operational reviews and compliance documentation.
• Maintain the highest health and safety standards, align with UAE regulations and best practices.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies with first aid and water rescue skills.
• Keep certifications in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and emergency response current.
• Promote student wellbeing by creating an inclusive, safe environment encouraging participation.
• Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies rigorously.
• Exemplify professionalism, vigilance, and calm decision-making as a model for others.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a nationally or internationally recognized Lifeguard Qualification (e.g., RLSS, Ellis & Associates).
• Hold valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
• Have a minimum of two years’ lifeguard experience, preferably in schools, leisure centers, or sports facilities.
• Experience supporting swimming lessons or aquatic programs is highly desired.
• Prior work in British or international school settings is advantageous.
• Knowledge of pool operations, water quality testing, and safety protocols is beneficial.
• Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection in educational contexts.
