Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with commercial and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery, maintaining strong relationships and managing risks while maximizing commercial returns.
  • Prepare tenders, evaluate and choose subcontractors, and negotiate and finalize subcontract orders.
  • Manage financial and commercial aspects of subcontractors through to final account completion.
  • Maintain accurate site records and control documentation.
  • Record site measurements precisely.
  • Support forecasting, target setting, and contract value reconciliations.
  • Prepare valuations and variations with detailed records and negotiate changes as work progresses.
  • Update and submit projected final accounts promptly.
  • Engage with site management to influence and challenge commercial matters effectively.
  • Execute commercial strategies to safeguard company interests.
  • Preserve John Sisk & Son’s commercial and contractual rights.
  • Participate in contract value reviews, ensuring an objective perspective.
  • Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities in projects.
  • Develop knowledge of insurances and warranties relevant to projects.
  • Assist in cash flow management to ensure healthy cash position.
  • Contribute to tendering processes as necessary.
  • Supervise Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors, reviewing their work.
  • Utilize clear verbal and written communication skills throughout duties.
  • Use technology platforms effectively to enhance work efficiency.
  • Maintain full familiarity with the Standard Method of Measurement.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness and ownership of responsibilities.
  • Apply excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree-level education, progressing towards relevant professional accreditation.
  • Familiarity with JCT contracts.
  • Competency in letter and report writing.
  • Strong negotiation abilities.
  • Experience with contract value reviews (CVRs).
  • Completion of a two-day safety appreciation course covering contract and commercial awareness.
  • Membership in the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or eligibility for it.

Preferred Experience and Attributes

  • Exposure to larger Design and Build contracts.
  • Understanding of claims and dispute resolution procedures.
  • Knowledge of contract law.
  • Experience with contracts valued above €/£15 million without direct responsibility.
  • Responsibility for managing traditional contracts.
  • Supervisory experience over Assistant Quantity Surveyors including signing off issues related to the Standard Method of Measurement or measurements.
